Help required on trackers AND inducing limp mode!

On Saturday morning will be picking up our new M3(new to us) - E92

The insurance company request to be "trackered" - i've asked them and they have NO demands on what type or to what level or what Thatcham category or whatever..........

I knew this beforehand - so its no problem - in fact probably gives you better piece of mind to be honest.

My Mrs has had a bit of a search and found that the "Cobra" system is well regarded............. whats the concensus on here?

ALSO........... the idea of having an engine kill or fuel pump cut-out or limp mode inducer linked to a hidden switch in the car.............

Someone mentioned a rev limit(1,000rpm or 3,000rpm) - they'll soon ditch it after realising it don't go!

Anyone else done this or have info on it???

Max

Chances are they will need to keys to drive it away, so if they can't start it, you will be getting a blathering until they can.

that would be the beauty of the "limp-mode" - so they drive off but it drives like a 750cc fiat............

so they either ditch it......... or if they try and run, they ain't gonna get too far.........!

......or get a quote off Admiral - they don't require a tracker on the M3 and were actually one of the cheapest quotes I had.

To be honest, if it's nicked I don't want it back!

I was with Admiral for the 335, but their muppets too deal with and weren't as cheap as Liverpool Victoria, for me anyway.

we have 2 cars - both with my Mrs(older than me) and me as second driver

We need a company that will allow us to use/mirror HER 7 years no claims on both cars

LV did........... for the 335d and our Merc Viano - it was 1075 for both

some places were quoting 1000 ish - JUST for the 335d

Been on the price comparisons and LV come out way better - combined for the both

Looking like the M3 will be about 750 at renewal next year - but they want a tracker........

Max

PS. SO NO-ONE ELSE GOT A TRACKER????

Had a tracker on my scoob and paid for a lifetime subscription-bought,stupidly,just before I decided to sell it.especially as I had a Clifford concept alarm fitted too.
When I bought the 335d, I wasn't asked by any insurance company about the need for a tracker.
I ended up with insurance through LV and for peace of mind,I fitted a Clifford blackjax in the first week of ownership.Again, not at the request of LV.
I keep on banging on about this system, but fitted properly it takes away the need for a tracker and is a real-world security system ie covers modern day offences of car jacking and mainline burglaries for your keys. The likelyhood of having your car thraped to death are non-existent as they won't get further than the end of your road-a safe distance to get out of the equation!
Just my observations mind!

You would have thought that the internal SIM card that can be used as a location system on the M3 would be sufficient as a tracker for insurance purposes.
