I was nervous about driving it in the winter but the thought of it sitting in the garage killed me. Slapped some snow shoes on it and the thing rocked

Sorry you are disappointed in the car. Start driving it more. I could not imagine walking by the car every day and seeing it sit in the garage as I pulled away.
Sounds like you need to program that M button sir

I think a lot of people expected the same level of improvement over the E46 in the E9X. It's a better car, but not by leaps and bounds like the E46 was... Just my 2 cents..
E46 was not leaps and bounds better than the e36,if anything I enjoyed the driving pleasure of the e36 more than the e46.Yes the e46 had better engine, more refined ride, steering, suspension, electronics and looks compared to the e36.But the same can be said about the e9x vs the e46.

OP is expecting more from a car he bought as a weekend car. That the M3 is not. It's an everyday car with more usability and comfort compared to a caymen or 911.This is a case of the wrong tool for the job.

I could be wrong, but performance wise, the E46 felt like it blew away the E36. Not such a large margin between the E46 and E9X...

You know what would blow you away? An X5M. It's more of a surprise factor here because you don't expect an SUV to perform as the X5M does. But it's a great dd, for a weekend car get a 911, or Lotus.

Well if were talking HP,weight and grip differences between the 3..

Gotta remember the e36 suspension was pretty much carried over to the e46,with the exception of the e46 having the stiffer chassis and better tires.

e36 240HP 3200lbs .89g skid pad

e46 333HP 3400lbs .89g skid pad

e92 414HP 3600lbs .98g skid pad

So in reality a well driven e36 will have no trouble with an e46.Where the e92 will blow both of them away around a road course.

Really? It is part of my starting procedure; unless somebody can help me so my car just starts with it on. I won't drive without MDM on, its an amazing traction system, and S5 downshifts are much, much better than S3, and the throttle is lame without the power button on. I do leave it in Normal EDC mode though with my M button; Sport EDC makes it feel almost like my tires are flat or something because of the crappy roads I always drive on (very bumpy, not in a good way).

+1!!!

My previous car was a 911TT...wrong choice for me as a daily! M3 is best served as a daily driver. It's not a weekend car.

Is this thread serious? I would regret it too if I somehow spent 60k on a Honda Accord coupe.

If you can't appreciate the M, then drive something else. Easy.

Whatever you do don't supercharge / bbk it if you're not going to get on a track to properly take advantage of those mods. Minimal benefits from those for just street use.

"Faster around a track" depends a lot on what track you are talking about.

One can assume that a faster lap time = a better handling car, but im sure most people on this forum are smarter than that, including you. There is a reason why a cayman s produces similiar lap times than its more powerfull bigger brother 911 and i dont have to sit here and tell you why, i am sure you already know those reasons. I am not here to compare the over all performance of a 997.2s pdk to an m3, i am merely reffering to HANDLING and nothing else. Not power, not weight, and not acceleration figures. I am simply stating, that the m3 is more poised, confident, and stable through high speed turns in which many people would agree with my assesment. The thing that pisses me off about this forum, is that there are a lot of m3 owners that say shit like "ohhhhh the 997s will destroy an m3, its better than an m3 in every respect", blah blah blah. Not giving the m3 the proper credit it deserves. I suspect its because since they are m3 owners, they do not want to come off as being bias towards the car that they own. Its a great thing not to be bias, but give the m3 the credit it deserves or just sell it and get the fucking porsche (and i dont want to hear crap like the m3 is a great dd cause it has a trunk and a backseat) We all fucking know that. I want to hear praise for its performance abilities compared to more expensive cars like the porsche. I guarantee that those people who have enough seat time in both cars will realize that some things just work better on the m and some things work better on the porsche. I love the light, nimble feeling of the carrera, and i love the steering feedback. I love how it corners in slow speed turns and i love the brakes. However, when your going through higher speed turns 70mph-90mph, the m3 has the advantage. It feels more stable, more planted and more confident. The porsche feels downright scary and unpredictable. BOTTOM LINE.

+1... the M3 and a 911 are very comparable cars performance wise but with a significant price and practicality advantage to the M3. The 911S does shift the performance balance towards the Porsche for sure but what would you expect for a car that is MUCH more expensive. From my experience driving a Porsche... which is admittedly not extensive... you need to be a much better driver to drive a 911 at its limit. The M3 is much easier to drive at its limit and, compared to a base 911, the limit is very similar... therefore, the M3 is, in my view, a much easier car to extract performance from. An M3 makes EVERY driver a better driver... a 911 allows already very good drivers to extract a lot.

A novice to mid level driver will, IMO, be faster in an M3 than a base 911... an experienced and skilled driver will be faster in a 911S than either car.

Agreed, the M3 does indeed have more poise and balance everywhere..The 911 platform has the disadvantage of having more weight at the rear end and will never feel as balanced as the M3..There is no getting around the laws of physics even though suspension and tire choices go a long way for Porsche. And you always have the fear of that back end stepping out HARD in a 911,and once it does you better be ready.I intensionally oversteer the M3 for fun and control the slides on demand.Could not do that with the GT3 without the pendulum effect kicking in or way too much oversteer.M3 gives it's driver more confidence at the limit and when things do get out of hand its not a nightmare to control.
