Thanks for your vast insight...

And thanks for the other two posters for actually answering my question without being assholes about it.

Have a look at this guy's holsters:

I bet if you remove the clips, you could attach it between the seat and the center console. There is a good grip on the pistol if you put it under the driver's seat it shouldn't fall out. He custom makes them so he could make one to fit your needs.

It's pretty easy to get a concealed weapons permit in Florida, but I can't speak for other states. You need to be 21, have a clean record (no I don't know how clean, but at least no felony convictions), take a firearm safety course (about 2 hours at any local gun range), and fill out an application. I think it took about 2 months for me to get mine approved and the license sent in the mail.

I'm not going to address the questions about why would someone want to carry a gun because it's personal preference and the legal exercise of your rights (depending on your state). I don't ask people why they do or don't wear a seatbelt when they drive or take the flu shot every year. It's your call and none of my business, but I don't appreciate the insinuation that people who carry are paranoid. If you feel safe without one, good for you, I hope you're never in a situation to need one. I feel better having one with me sometimes.

I don't think it's being paranoid at all. It's a good idea.

My dad used to be a cop in Philly and said he had some wild things happen. He told me when I bought this car to watch out because it can and does happen. You'll be driving and someone will clip your rear end at a stop light or something. The normal person gets out with the driver who hit your car to assess the damage, exchange insurance info, etc... He said he received calls where this happened, the person who got hit got out of the car, was then beaten by two or three of the suspect's friends and then the car was stolen. Better to just roll the window down, say, "I called the cops, just wait in the car and put your hazards on," and wait for the cops to show up, especially if the situation is really shady or you feel uncomfortable. Or if they try to approach your car, you have something to defend yourself against a possible intruder.

I just wasn't sure on the legal issues, since I never really looked into it. I figured it was different for each state, but was curious because while the states are different, there are a lot of similarities.

So many things can happen. You're too trusting and naive if you think otherwise.

And don't give me the "I'm such a meat head I'll defend myself with THESE guns *flex*" because if a bunch of shady creeps decide they want your car, they are going to get it.

Oh, nvm... You're from Canada. That explains everything.

Sadly any country associated with the British Commonwealth gave up their liberties long ago. Orwell and Rand were spot on pertaining to the future of the "West".

Even worse as our common law/individual rights mostly came from Britain. Something I am grateful for.

As for the poster who wrote he feels sorry for us who excercise our liberty, you are incorrect. I feel sorry for you Sir who has given up your liberty to a socialist, controlling, paranoid government who fears it's "subjects" being armed or having the dangerous notion the 2+2 DOES equal 4, not 5.

Good day.

But to answer your question, the difficulty of attaining a concealed weapons permit varies from state to state, and where you take the course. I assume it's easier in the Southern states. In Florida it's pretty easy to get one after you take a course. There are specialty places where you can take a course but you can also get them at gun shows and even Bass Pro Shops offers a course.

Very easy if you are a solid citizen. I've been pulled over with my Springfiled XDM 40 in the glovebox. I gave him my CCFP and he asked me where it was, I told him, he retreived it, emptied it, ran the serial numbers, and told me it was a beautiful gun. Didn't even give me a ticket for speeding(56 in 45). I feel better in case there is a need for personal protection. It's all good and fine if you know how to fight, I've been in my share. But if the other person comes at you with a gun, what's up now? I'd love to hear some of these responses. I've carried for 12 years and never had to pull it out of the holster.

A cross draw holster works really well for carrying in the car.

What some people dont understand is that legally carrying a gun is like having insurance on the M3. You hope you never have to use it....

In Texas having a sidearm in your doesn't require a CCL, to carry outside does. Although what I find funny is it's legal to carry a much more powerful and accurate rifle on your person without a CCL. I hope Texas one day will implement "open carry" as was intended by our founding fathers both Texas and National. Paying a "fee" to excercise a right is akin to a poll tax IMHO.

OK... true story...

I have a friend who spent a lot of time in Texas and had relatives there. His uncle lives there. So a guy is breaking into his uncles house and ends up getting shot (the bad guy) outside the front door and dies... I don't know the complete circumstances, nor to I care. Anyway, when the cops arrive, one of the cops pulls the guy into the front entrance. My friend's uncle asks why he did that. Cop says because it means a lot less paperwork Don't know if it was bullshit or not but my buddy swears it is a true story.

Good day.
First off, I don't care if someone legally chooses to carry a gun. Having said that, it is interesting that the further north you go... even in the US... how different the attitude is towards the issue. My unscientific observation is that the southern US is very pro gun... northern US is much less so... Canada, well you know the answer there. I think it is as much a cultural and historical matter as anything else.

I do have to say that I am happy that 98% of us in Canada would never feel the need to ever carry a gun... maybe it's naive but it is the way it is. I don't know anyone, other than guys who hunt, who owns a gun. They could if they wanted as it isn't hard to get a handgun license but no one seems to care to. Although I could own a gun if I chose, legally, I would have to say it would suck if I felt like I needed to.

There are some crazy people out there... road rage, crazy tempers, etc ... for the most part, all you need to worry about is someone getting in a fight... it would be scary to also need to worry that they could be carrying a gun when they were pissed off with me for cutting them off or something.

I carry a S&W .40 in a full cover carrier in the car. When I drive, I just put it right by the door. If not it is on the floor of the back seat. I can't find enough space to hide a gun in this car.
