The buzzing noise thread.

I recall reading a thread a while back about noises coming from the car after you shut off the engine.. but for the life of me I can't find it (i've found a bunch of clicking noise threads, but that's about it). Wanted to read it as I just started hearing this loud buzzing noise coming from the car after I shut the engine off (this is standing outside).. lasts for a few seconds (10-15) and then all of a sudden there's this clunk (like someone kicked over a bucket of water) and the buzzing stops. curious. i'm sure i read a thread about it?

What I have heard is sound like that of crushing a can after the car is turned off, but that's just the metal reacting with the change in temperature and contracting

The consensus seems to be that it's the EVAP system doing its checks.

I believe that's the fuel pump switching off.

ah. perfect. thks guys! that's exactly it. a whirring noise coming from the rear driver's side wheel well.... lasts about 20 seconds or so and then i hear this pop (sounds like it is coming from the exhaust) and then it stops... tks again, much appreciated!
