Opinion on buying used e92 M3

What do you guys think about buying a used M3 say around 2009. It would be either a 2008 or early 2009 model with low miles.

What types of people sell their M3 this quickly?
Did they likely abuse it? or could it be a lemon?
Is there an electronic rev limiter to prevent break in abuse?

If I want to buy and keep the car for at least 7 yrs is it better to fork up the new car cost and nurture the thing from day one?

Trying to avoid 1st yr depreciation...

Funny, I'm debating the same thing - get on the dealer list now and pay MSRP or wait until April 2008 and pick up a slightly used one. Since it appears the M3 will start showing up in the US late 2007\early 2008 I think I have a shot at a used one in spring 2008. Looking at the E60 M5 there were a few slightly used on the market right after launch....

For me, I think I've decided to wait to pick up a slightly used one. The reason is if I order new, I'll be very very limited with options since you have to pay gas guzzler + desination (which is around $2200+ tax), which will limit the options I can get. I'm looking to get one sooner - April\May 2008 so I know my choices will be limited. I also live in Michigan so I think I can hold out through the winter time and get the M3 in the spring.

I did pick up a used 2001 M3 a few years back, never had any issues with the car and it had 2 previous owners. Bottom line for me: the car will be driven hard, but it will have a full warranty + maintenance so you're covered.

Note: my self-imposed budget is $55k, so there's no way I'm getting one brand new for that price.

My risk is that there will be such high demand I wont be able to pick one up in April 2008, hopefully that wont be the case!

Yeah my budget is about the same and that is already stretching it...

I'll be just getting out of college in spring 08 so I figure I'll pay down the loans for a year and buy used in 09...

good point about avoiding the gg tax, although i dunno if a portion of that would just be reflected in the resale value anyway...?

and somehow i doubt you will ride yours gently jte92

Well, the more expensive the car is the bigger depreciation we will see in year 1. Just look at the M5, priced around $92k w options, selling $20k+ lower in year 2.
