Several reasons (that I've heard *ahem*) for windows being opened, full or partially: when smoking, cop nearby (tint), etc.

But yeah, OP, my wife too is very sensitive to smell, dust, etc. All windows/moonroof closed at all times when she's in the car. Remember, if the wife is not happy, there's no peace in the house!

I like to drive with window down (only open my side), but rarely can. It's either too cold (heater on), too hot (A/C on), too windy/dusty, or I'm on the freeway/highway. The few times I'm on surface streets that is nice enough to open them I do, but it's not often. And when I do, I can't smell the leather anymore for days with all the fumes and stuff, but still open them .

I like having the window down around town (under 50 MPH) when the weather is mild.

My wife doesn't want her hair blowing around; so, it's windows up when she's in the car. In addition, I think windows up (and doors locked) provides an additional level of security for a woman even though they may not think of it consciously.

Windows open 95% of the time. Sunroof usually stays tilted open with the slider open just about an 8th of the way to let the car vent during the day then open if it's not 90 degrees out.

in town - open
hwy - closed

I tried to have the vents running when windows are open also mainly because I don't ever want that funky smell (obviously, change filters once a year)

With an e90 the trick is to lower the drivers side rear window about 2-3 inches while the driver's window is all the way down. This way you get a nice steady breeze through the car with no buffeting.

^(Srsly) that's actually a decent practical analysis of laminar versus turbulent airflow.

I feel like it's a distraction to my driving. Lol. And I can't hear the radio as well with them down.

A lot of the time I have the, closed because I am having business phone calls. On any leisurely drive they are wide open and so is my exhaust!!!

Closed 99% of the time. I may crack it 1/4 of an inch on occasion just to let in some air, but normally it is closed; I run the vent when it's cooler outside. Open windows results in more interior dust, and my OCD can't handle that. :P

Mine are rarely open unless the weather is really nice and I'm not on the interstate...otherwise, they stay close.

surprised there's not many others like us who keep the windows closed to keep the interior smelling fresh and to keep the dirt, dust, and grime out.

I have actually pulled the fuses for the windows so that they stay up always. It's a little more of a PITA opening and closing doors, but keeps the dust particles out.
