Question Do you drive with your windows OPEN or CLOSED?

just curious. When its not raining/snowing, of course.

when i drive around here in SoCal, i generally see 1 out 10 cars with their windows open. it seems to me that most people like to drive with windows closed....personally, i like the feel of the air coming in. The only time i drive with the windows closed is when its 95+ degrees and i need the AC. It could be blazing cold 30s or 40s and i still have them wide open.

My wife, on the other hand will never open the car windows for any reason. I hate being in the car with her when she drives because it gets super stuffy. Her reasoniing is that she hates the smell of diesel fuel and pollution from buses and trucks but i just accept it and figure its a part of life we cant escape.

*if you drive with your windows CLOSED. can you state why?

Unless it's cold or extremely hot I drive with my windows down. I like the air, being able to hear the engine, tires, and my surroundings. I just feel more connected while driving with them down.

I assume people driving in the winter with their window open is a smoker. Not sure why else you'd enjoy a blast of cold air.

The cold weather in Canada is not a joke, so NO WAY in winter. But in summer, I like to drive with my windows down.

Send a message via AIM to a burrito
If its not raining and cold out at night then i open the windows and blast the heater.. If its not raining and hot out then i open the windows and put the A/C on low... LOVE opening my windows. Typically because I used to have a couple convertibles...

I enjoy it whenever I can but my problem is I get work related phone calls all the time driving and I have been told by everybody that the hands-free mic quality is soo poor with windows down or even with my moon-roof tilted..Sucks

Mostly closed; because even when its warm out too much crap gets in the car. Whether its construction dust, pollen, tree crap, it always shows up everywhere on a black interior.

I have them down if the temperature is reasonable. Rain/snow aside, I am not putting my windows down in the winter. Too freakin cold. As far as I know, no one else around here does either (except maybe to have a cigarette, like someone else said). OP, you have it nice in Cali. I think if you went months without seeing temps above freezing like much of the rest of the US does, you'd quickly grow real tired of having your windows down when the temps are in the "30s or 40s". Just MHO.

FWIW, I very, very rarely have just my windows down - I usually either put the top and windows both down, or neither of the two. Typically this is at around 60-65 degrees or above, depending on sunlight and on what roads i am taking (freeway vs. surface streets). In fact, today is our first 60 degree day since last year, and I look forward to the drive home with the top down.

There's no option for driving with the top down. I'd pick that one

if it's not raining, my windows are almost always open when the weather is between 30 and 80 degrees F. outside of that, I only open them for short periods of time. I like having them open for the reasons noted above (hearing engine/tire noise, etc.).

Well, then you just blew my theory. You must get a lot of looks driving around Chicago winters with the windows down, assuming you aren't smoking. Unless this is common for some reason in Chicago? If you are right downtown, I guess maybe the buildings make it feel warmer than it is?

Yea I used to drive with my sunroof open in previous cars. When I first got this car I put my hand up to the dome light area to open the sunroof only to remember I don't have one. It's not really something I miss though. I just got used to not having one. It's not as drastic as say someone going from a vert to a coupe.

down 25% on drivers side, enough for me to hear the engine better
Otherwise typically all up but sun roof cracked to get fresh air

no, it's just as cold downtown as it is everywhere else. buildings make no difference. I generally have a high tolerance for cold weather, and I just keep my coat on in the driver's seat. I'm sure I do get a lot of weird looks, but I haven't really noticed. I'm usually too busy checking out how awesome I look in the rearview mirror.
