Dashboard Creaking

I've got an intermittent creaking coming from the center dashboard, near the windscreen. It's not the center speaker as I've completely removed that and the creak is still there.

The creak happens over rough roads, but not over bumps. More frequent when car is hot.

It's driving me nuts! Any ideas will be appreciated.

I had some creaking near the center speaker up top but my problem was the speaker/vent cover. When I removed the cover to see what's going on, I noticed the felt strips were flattened -- I put a couple of dense foam dots around and it's been silent since then.

i have some creak / buzz coming from the bottom of the instrument cluster, if i put my hand on top of plastic at the bottom of the cluster, it will stop...

i remember seeing someone fixed it by taking out the cluster and add some felt. mine only creak / buzz occasionally it haven't crossed my threshold to trigger me to fix it yet...

I had an 535xi that had a bad creak in the dash. Turned out BMW dealer had to take the whole dash out to find loose bolts in the firewall bracing. They had to drive it with everything dangling from the dash while one of them isolated the problem. Not that you'll have the same issue but have you tried driving with a buddy and see if he(she) can narrow it down?

Yes I've driven around with a buddy and despite what we try we can't locate it. So I'm pretty sure it's somewhere inside the dash. I'm leery of taking the dash apart though as that might introduce other noises.

Was the firewall bracing accessible from the engine bay side?

I don't think so but again that was a 535. They removed EVERYTHING till they found it. Maybe check the schematics of the M3 if you can find them.
Best of luck
