tirerack also sells a wheel/tire shipping kit...cost ~$25...it's some cardboard cutouts and wrapping material IIRC.just need to call tirerack directly to get it..

just for more data... i shipped a set of 4 wheels and tires cross country for a little less than $200 UPS ground. I cardboarded the front and back sides of the wheels, wrapped it all up with that shrink wrap stuff, and taped it up really good. the buyer received them and everything turned out good.

don't ever use the prices that large dealers (such as tirerack) use for shipping estimates. They have commercial accounts, and their discounts are based on volume.

Many people underestimate the costs of shipping wheels and tires, and ESPECIALLY the cost of materials. The boxes alone will run you ~$20 if you are just shipping wheels, and then add the extra cardboard, foam, etc etc and it will easily add up to $50.

Shipping wheels and tires is even more expensive. I just packaged a set of 20s with tires, and just the boxes alone were $55 because of the odd size. I had to cut down the boxes, and I still needed more cardboard for packaging. Overall, I spent over $100 on materials alone. If you do the unboxed method, it will still be ridiculously expensive because of the plastic wrap and cardboard blanks you will need (though cheaper than boxed method).
