A Few Photos Before A Major Mod...

She's going into the shop tonight for air suspension with a fully custom show-quality trunk setup.

While that's happening, a new set of wheels will be getting built.

Air ride build is going to be at least six weeks, so I figured I'd snap a few goodbye photos, haha.

One last before handing over the keys

Looks perfect the way it is, not sure why you want to change anything!

I like to push my own limits...hahaha

But, thanks! I love how it looks now, but will love it even more when it's "done"...which it never will be.

Just curious, what kit are you doing for air ride?
Slick looking SDC Forgestar btw! Do you plan to sell it?

Airlift Performance 3P, 5 gallon tank, dual 444c compressors.

I'll pretty much only trust Airlift...their reputation is excellent!

And, yep. I definitely plan on selling the Forgestars. Only 3k miles on them!

Thanks! There's a lot of work going into the trunk. My shop is working WITH Airlift to get things perfect and completely one-off. Super exciting, and I'm looking forward to sharing it with the community...maybe it'll change some minds around here. Hahaha...

Yeah I guess I would go further with what you have going. I will leave this here for you to consider.

Interestingly enough, I shouldn't be stretching the tires. Trying to keep the offset/wheel width the same as they are now...if anything, I'll be slightly more stretched than currently

That's good news when you said most won't like it I was picturing stretch, poke, mexi flush, wacky body kit and curb feelers.

Haha...hell no. I'm trying to keep the car's mods subtly heavy, if that makes any sense. I'm not one for anything tacky...but, I like low...and having the adjustability really helps.

We're also going very OEM++ with the trunk set up. Should be quite impressive when all is said and done.

One of my favorite cars on the forum, excited to see what you do with it with the air ride and new wheels! Any wheel hints?

Going air ride on my old GTI was the best decision I ever made with that car. It was extremely comfortable and handled great. Ran Airlift performance kit with V2 management. I never had problems with my system with over a year of daily use. You will love the 3P system.

I wasnt into the stance look and didn't run super stretched tires. I just loved how convenient air ride was. No more worries and steep angle driveways or speed bumps.

Beautiful! Been waiting for more pictures of your car to surface. It seriously is perfect, but the custom options and versatility with air is hard to beat!

Can't wait to see how it turns out

Thanks, man! I'm gonna be doing weekly progress shots, as this build is going to be a booth car for the shop, and proper write-ups are a must!

You should do the work yourself, you will know how to fix it if/when something goes wrong. Only problem with air is their is always a small chance something could break. It could be a bad check valve, broken airline, compressor etc. but its nice to know exactly how everything is done so you can patch it up road side. Also throw together a road side emergency kit to leave in the car. Some spare line, line cutters, relay, fuses, unions to join broken line, etc.

Plus building your trunk set up is half the fun. You get to truly make it yours and not like anyone else's set up. I ran a floating 5 gallon tank, welded the mounts to the back to give it a cleaner look. Ran the hardlines and hid both compressors, water traps, management, etc under a false floor. Still had my spare, jack etc. as well.

Love the set up! Super clean.

However, I already have a project that I'm doing on my own, haha. I'd love to do the M myself, but running two projects at once. Plus, I'm getting crazy deals on all the products through a sponsorship (provided I attend shows, etc). I'll be there for most of the install process, so I'm going to learn as much as I can from the pros...haha.

But, I agree! I'll be doing the whole thing on my wife's Cabriolet this winter. It's bottomed out on HORRIBLE suspension right now. Not gonna go as crazy as you did with hard lines and stuff, but it should be interesting...especially in the Cabby's trunk

I love me a mk1, this what I daily drove after I sold my GTI and before I bought the M3. Picked this thing up and it needed a good bit of TLC. Replaced damn near every part on it, aba swap, and redid the interior. Now some dude out in Ohio is driving it around lol.

Bagging a mk1 with airlifts new set up is super easy. Mine was just on cheap coils up front and a flip kit with air shocks in the rear.

Sorry I will stop taking over your post now Good luck with the build

Here's a before/after of the interior. I literally took the first shot one year ago today, haha.

Carbon fiber makes a world of difference. As does the CCC ---> CIC upgrade.
