Wheel size - 19s or 20s

Is there a difference in drivability, accelaration and handling with 19s vs 20s ?

I'm curious too, however, simple items are:

20s obviously cost more to repair or buy tires for.
Worse gas mileage because of the distance that wheel has to rotate(correct if wrong)

+1 plus you have to take in consideration that 20 does have lower profiles, so the ride will be a little rougher or you will feel more of the roads than you will do with the 19.

I know I am REALLY happy I didnt go with 20's, 19's are just right with a slight drop. Going from the stock 18's I did notice the "comfort" level dropped a little but wasn't too bad. However if all you care about is looks go 20......

IMHO.

20's look absurd, will screw up the handling, make the car ride like a connestoga wagon and if the OP is in NYC he will be replacing tires and rims every two weeks.

Depends on the wheels, 20" Forged wheels will weigh less than 19" Cast wheels. If you are comparing the same two wheels, one 20" and one 19", then the 20's will run heavier and negatively impact acceleration.

I know they're (usually) heavier, aren't as comfortable, and probably nosier... you can't say they look absurd.

Not quite absurd (well, maybe), but personally I like the look of a bit of sidewall rubber as well. Looks more meaty and menacing. The car will perform better on 18" wheels. Period. The suspension was setup based on a 18" wheel. The only reason I'd ever go to 19" is if I had an aftermarket brake kit requiring a larger wheel.

Yes and ummmmmmmmmm Yes, 20's on an M3 make it look gimicky....ruins the spirit of the car

Hmmmm. I'm a wheel fangirl. When it comes to custom wheels, I feel wide track and wide tread looks hotter. At a certain point, when wheels get so big around with such little strips of tire wrapping that they start to make the car look like it belongs connected to a locomotive, I find them less appealing.

I do think they look absurd. Horrible. I laugh every time I see some heavy Escalade with 1" sidewalls.

It does to me. I can't stand oversized wheels on cars. 19's are big enough for the M3. Some would argue 18's look more fitting (when lowered).

Bottom line, if you like 20" wheels on a M3, you would fit in better at Disney World rather than St. Tropez.

I think 20's are actually perfect for the E90 chassis. I mean if you're building a track car then a super-lightweight 18" wheel would be a better choice but they just make a normal car look so much better its hard to pass it by... then again, i'm biased

I didn't notice a huge difference in ride comfort but part of it is that I selected my tires brand and size specifically to minimize the impact on the ride comfort. If you go with tires that have stiffer sidewalls, there will definitely be a difference as the OEM PS2s have rather soft sidewalls.
