Front PDC now available in america? Cost to retrofit?

Friends,

3 questions:

Can anyone comment on whether its possible to retrofit the Front PDC kits recently made available for the normal LCI'd US 3 series (non-M) onto an M3? (do the wiring harnesses interface? does the piece physically fit? etc etc)

If so, how much does the (US spec) piece cost? I've searched Tischer's notoriously difficult website, but haven't been able to come up with anything. (I've read here and there that the front sensors can be purchased for as little as 30 dollars a piece, and that the actual module itself can be purchased for 70 dollars. But there's been a lot of conflicting information on this. If anyone can clarify I'd really appreciate it)

If not, does anyone know how much the Euro Front PDC (fairly) costs, and WHERE one can buy it? (I know alekshop sells it for $1200, but I haven't seen anybody else selling this piece to confirm whether alekshop's price is fair). I understand that the the Euro Front PDC is available in Canada. Can anyone in Canada comment on how much the Front PDC kit costs there?

Any help would be genuinely appreciated,
- esquire

^ please re-read the first post

1) the q here isn't whether or not the make the front PDC kit as an OEM part for the US M3. The question is whether or not the OEM pdc kit for the NORMAL U.S. 3 series will work on the M3?

2) i actually mentioned alekshop in the first post. i'm aware that he sells it, but i can't find any other sources who also sell the piece which makes it impossible to determine whether his prices are fair/competitive or not. In other words, what i'm asking is whether anyone knows of another source that sells the (euro spec) front pdc kit?

I did read you post, and you will find out that Aleks kit is you sure bet as I think that he provides the coding as well...

The 3-Series PDC kit is the M3 PDC kit: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...24&hg=66&fg=95

Crossreference the P/N and you will see that they apply to the 3-Series.

The other source is Rover Active on eBay. They sell it at about the same price as Aleks and no coding.

1.Yes, it will work 100%
2.The only other source I know of is... me

If you have the rear PDC you will need to add sensors, the on/off button below the Navigation/Radio, some wiring and also change your PDC module, because the one you have does not support the front PDC.
After that you need to have the car coded.

You can sell your old PDC module to somebody who wants to retrofit the rear PDC.

PDC is available on the non-M 3-series, US bound M3s did not get the option. Front PDC is not a M-specific option, but retrofit kits are not available in the US.

We've performed a couple of retrofits in house (including coding) and will be keeping the kits readily available in stock for those looking to upgrade.

I wish someone would break out the part numbers and upgrade path from a DIY perspective (sans coding) instead of simply calling it a "Kit" with a magic $ applied to it.

Me too. I feel like there is an undue amount of mystery surrounding this part.

If what other's are saying is true - that the non-M 3 series front PDC is the same as the M3's front PDC - then there's no reason we shouldn't have much more information available to us. Given that the US 3er now comes with front PDC as an available option - it shouldn't be that hard to get this piece from a US dealer (and hopefully at a better price than the Euro PDC).

I found this a while a go and have been saving it. It could prove to be very useful. The update does not deserve to be vendor cloaked.

To be blunt again... either there is a serious lack of search skills or an excess of lazy members in this forum.

1. Take the P/N of the kit in the link that I posted.
2. Go here http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/
3. And you will get your P/N breakdown: http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/66200399629/

In the worse case, your dealer can give you the parts breakdown of any kit as well. After all, all these OEM part websites are the dealer's OEM parts database.

By the way, that bmwfans website was posted here some time ago just for this P/N breakdown purpose, not something that I pulled out of my ass just now to prove a point.

This appears to be the breakdown for the e92.

Looks like THIS ( http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/66200393938 ) is also part of the breakdown - the ultrasonic sensor. What i can't tell is if that price (133 euros, or 201 dollars) is for 1 sensor or for all 4 sensors.

Looks like its just the price for one sensor.

That P/N seems to apply to the E92 non-M3 bumper, the 66200399629 is listed under the E90 M3 applications, which shares the same M3 bumper as the E92.

Basically it is the same kit with the exeption of a few parts.

P/N 66202180146 is the latest sensor, $166 each.

The P/N date files of bmwfans are up to 0209. Use http://getbmwparts.com/ for prices and latest P/N references.

I will be doing mine shortly. I'm just waiting for the final pieces to arrive from Germany. Some of the bits are blacklisted from the BMWNA ordering system.

i did mine. here's some info:

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=386814&page=4

a ton of work to get it right. something like this:

- import euro bumper
- have it painted
- import sensors (too expensive to buy in the US)
- paint sensors
- buy new pdc module and pdc kit with harness (roveractive has them)
- painting the sensors
- buy and install front dash button and you'll need a new bottom plastic piece as well unless yours came with the bottom row of buttons.
- installation and coding

very expensive to do, but it's clean when it's done right.

I took the poor man's route.
  • Drill the OEM Bumper
  • Use prepainted sensors from ebay.de
  • PDC Module & Retrofit kit from a Euro Supplier
  • Universal center console button kit from a local dealer
  • Self Coding
