I think the reviews are useful...don't think the lap results are though. I tend to want to hear all Clarkson, Hammond, and May review the same car. They give interesting points and counter-points. It just comes down to your personality.

I tend to like what Hammond has to say the most.

Don't think that just because Top Gear says the M3 beats the RS5 that the M3 is automoatically better. I think the first C63AMG vs M3 vs RS4 Top Gear show said it best. All 3 are superb cars in different ways...depends on what YOU want.

I just happen to want what the M3 offers. I really hope that Audi, MB, and other automakers continue to make up a diverse market segment. If they all made the same thing...that would be communism.

First, it wasn't a "scathing" review of zcp. Second, he said zcp wasn't worth it because on a flat road it had a harsh ride (which pretty much means it's tightened up and ready for track use), and third, the forum members you should be feeling for are those who put so much value on clarksons words, whether they are zcp owners or not.

Yup!!
I dont regret buying the ZCP at all. I cant see why anyone who has the ability to buy it, wouldnt buy it. Just configure it the way you like it and drive on. I like the way it drives in the twisties MUCH better with Sport Mode on, its ABSOLUTELY faster and more stable in the tighter stuff. Top Gear is the best Car show on TV in my opinion and I certainly take a lot of what they say into consideration but it generally boils down to what YOU like and how YOU like to drive when purchasing a car. I would bet money that the ZCP car beats the std M3 on a dry track like the std M3 was tested on.

you do know that you can get the adjustable EDC suspension with the standard M3, right?

I skipped the ZCP because I like the look of the 220Ms better than the ZCP wheels, so there are reasons other than $ that someone would not opt for the ZCP. also, not sure there have been any tests conducted that have demonstrated a difference between the ZCP and standard M3. just like the CF roop on the coupe doesn't provide a measurable performance enhancement over the sedan, I doubt there would be a difference that could be demonstrated from the ZCP.

Gotta wonder

You got to ask yourself- if the real intent of the comparo was to see if the comp pack made a measurable difference they would have had the "original" M3, (that was there on the track too) jump in for a timed lap as well! But they didn't. Why? Because top gear is first an entertainment show and second a show about car performance. This was one of the weakest performance tests I've ever seen. Great fun to watch though...

Has anyone considered the reason that the competition pack M3 was slower than the standard M3 might be due to new stig being not as fast as sacked stig?

Well that aside- the track was wet.

The main reason was because the track was wet for the comp pack car and dry for the std M3.

I seem to recall Clarkson saying in a previous programme the difference from dry to wet could be about 3 sec with the old Stig.

The laps shown of the new Stig were not that impressive he/she was letting the Audi understeer all over the place and pretty much drifting the M3, not the fastest way round for either car I would have thought. Although it is not clear that the footage shown all actually relates to the fastest laps, I suspect it is edited from several runs.

Also I would have thought that in the "race" sequence any half decent racer would have lost Clarkson pretty quickly even if in a slower car. Again I suspect it is all a performance for tv rather than any sort of objective comparison.

Clarkson is actually an impressive driver, and I'm sure his skills are better than anyone on this board.

What evidence do you have to support your contention ?

I couldn't agree more. I had every intention of painting/powder coating mine black...but the second I saw them in person I was like...wow...hmmm...think I'm just gonna leave them as is.

He drives for the camera not to go quick!I am pretty sure he would not even rank compared to some of the members on this board. There are some quite accomplished current racers on this board that could compete at any level and have proved it!

Interesting. I find the harshest setting for the suspension on the ZCP cars to be more along the lines of how my E46 M3 felt all the time......IIRC.

Agree with others.....in The States it's worth what we pay just for the Wheels and the M button the the steering wheel which I use all the time.

I am sure he is a much better driver than me - that wouldn't be difficult, but he does get lots of practice - in other peoples cars.

I recall his attempts to learn the Nordsliefe with Sabina Schmidt (sorry if my spelling is off).

Jeremy Clarkson is not a bad driver. I don't remember the exact numbers, but I think he was putting decent times when they entered a 24 hour racing with a 3 series diesel.
