Who owns E92 335 at the moment but looking forward to buy E92 M3?

I am just curious if anyone already has E92 335 but planning to get E92 M3 when it comes out?
I am thinking of getting E90 335 because I won't be getting E92 M3 until 2010.
I thought about E92 335 but I have feeling that I will get tired of the look by 2010 if I am going to get one.
Trying to change my daily

Trying to figure out "what" to buy but E90 335 seems to be the best one in the market for $40,000ish.
Any comments?

Wow, $40,000.00 thats cheap.

That about 20,500.00 uk pounds, i spec'd a 335 M sport at a UK dealer and the bill was going to be approx. 35,000.00 (or $68,5000)...

Rip off UK as normal....

and you fuel is massively cheaper too

now i am well jealous

whats the proposed MRP for the new M3 in the US does any have a clue, i think they are going to be just under 50,000 ($98,000) in the UK...

Best guesses right now come in at $55 - 60,000 base price in U.S. plus options.

i'm actually high on the waitlist for the e92 M3 when its released either late 2007 or early 2008. i also own the e92 335i coupe... and love it. it's a real treat.

i'm totally looking forward to picking up the M3, and i'll be in the fortunate position where i'll be able to compare both cars before giving my dealer the thumbs up on the M3. (though i highly doubt i'd say no to an M3 !!)

the 335i coupe really blew my mind though. AND i can't wait to see how much performance improvement the M3 flexes over the 335i coupe.

i cant wait for the M3.. they say its going to do 0-10km/h in 4.8. but they said the M5 E60 would do 0-100km/h in 4.7 and its done 4.3.. So E92 M3? 4.5 and under, easy, all hail the M3, yet again

Well I have an E92 335i at the moment and still can't decide whether to put my deposit down for the M3. My mind was made up before to just do it but the 335 is just so competent.

I'll probably crumble in the end though.

that will be a day and night comparison. your 335i will be a pussycat.. if you like to get a feel of a 400hp gorilla, test drive a used e39 M5 V8,,,, thats how I envision the power feel of the new e92 M3

The new M3's V8 isn't going to have the torque of the E39 M5's motor (S62), so I don't know if that's a good comparison. In fact many E60 M5 owners complain about the lack of torque on the S85 and particularly in comparison to the S62.

edit: Just to add some numbers for the sake of comparison....

E60 M5 Torque - 383 lb ft
E39 M5 Torque - 396 lb ft

E90 M3 est Torque (8/10 of E60 M5 Torque) - 306 lb ft

As you can see the new M3's motor will only have roughly 3/4 the torque of the E39 M5's motor.

Can`t be true

Torque E46 M3 = 365NM =112,44 NM/L

Now if the BMW ///M people do the same for the new E9X M3;
4L*112.44=449.8 NM

Now if you take the torque of the E60 M5, 520 NM*75%=390NM

So something is wrong here, I think the torque will be just fine, and better than predicted......................................

I also believe the torque off the new M3 has to be better than that of the 335i (400 NM ), it would be a shame for the M3 and BMW if it isn`t better............................but I have confidence....................

It is not very smart to compare the E46 M3 engine to E92 M3 engine - totally different design from bore and stroke to number of cylinders and configuration, etc. New M3 based on E60 M5 engine (+DGI it seems we know now) this means tq/l of new M3 prob. slightly better than M5.

E60 M5 tq = 384 ft lb * 4 l / 5 l = 307 ft lb
335i tq = 300 ft lb (probably under rated like hp might be about 360 ft lb)

I expect max. tq due to design improvements and DGI on M3 to be 325 ft lb maximum. Either way the minimum figure 307 is still better than the quoted figure of the 335i (300 ft lb).

Also many of your conversions and numbers are plain wrong:
1. E46 M3 tq = 262 ft lb = 355 Nm
2. Displacement of E92 M3 / Displacement of E60 M5 = 80% (not 75%)

Last but not least even though the 335i may be putting out about a whopping 360 ft lb tq (about as much as the M5 brochure number) it is still slower 0-60 and 1/4 mi than the E46 M3 with 100 ft lb less torque! hp, high redline and gearing is more important.

Don't worry about the new M3!

I used the numbers given by Smoltz

Now the torque of an E46 M3 in Europe is 365 NM and not 355NM, maybe in the US, but in Europe its definatly 365NM and 343 HP. I know an M3 in the States has 333HP. So the number is correct IMO
An M3 CSL has 360HP, 111HP/L and a torque off 370NM, sot let us be surprised what BMW can do with the brand new 4L V8

We will see in short, what the outcome will be, but I predict at least an 110NM/L, 440 NM in total.

The M3 is going to be costly. I just bought an E90 335 and I was thinking the same thing.

You should just lease the 335 for 3 years then trade in for the m3 imo. From what I've read the torque is going to be about the same on the m3 as the 335 so just PROcede and add whatever mods come up soon and there ya go.

I've been very happy with my 335i coupe, so I put an order in for the new M3 convertible. I'm sure you won't be dissapointed with either car!!

No, you transposed the digits for the E39 M5: It has not 396 lbft as you stated, it's 369 lbft which is less than on E60 M5.

Best regards, south
