Interest in a Carbon OEM or Vented hood by Challenge?

Interest in a Carbon OEM or Vented hood by Challenge?

I've been on the fence for some time about if we want to go ahead with a hood design for the E92 M3. With our focus on designing functional parts with inspiration from professional racing and motorsports engineering, I want to be sure we offer our customers something that has a benefit beyond just cosmetic enhancement. We can do a lightweight oem style easily of course, but I'd prefer to do something with extraction ducting/vents that will add some additional function and style.

As always, we would design and produce the carbon hood here in the USA using dry laid carbon and with honeycomb composite core for maximum strength and weight savings. Hoods would follow a similar recipe like we use for our famously light trunk lids.

Hood seem to not be as popular on the E92 compared to the E46, so Iím not sure if itís just something people arenít into, or the right design hasnít come around yet. Any feedback or expression of interest is appreciated!

Thank you.

Gregory

Isn't the OEM hood aluminum? I think it's already pretty light...if i were to ever think about upgrading the hood, it's probably going to be mainly for cosmetic.

Agree with ^^ so how about doing a front bumper that can take the new led halos of the facelifted 3 series.

Same here. I have zero interest in a hood but would like front clip to take the facelifted lights once they come out. Gives you plenty of time for R/D

Show us some designs of a different style hood so we can give you our opinion before you make the actual product, I'd like to see something that adds additional function then then the stock hood

If there's minimal weight savings, I don't think you should bother with an OEM carbon hood.

I do think there would be a good market for vented hoods though.

Correct, the OEM hood being aluminum will make weight savings less significant, but ive seen some pretty light aluminum oem hoods weve still been able to but the weight in half.

from a styling standpoint, id prefer something vented myself. I'm ALWAYS a fan of fucntion as well of course

I agree, venting would be the primary reason for upgrading as weight savings would be negligible from the OEM unit.

Looking forward to seeing what is on the horizon.

Definitely vented. Weight savings wouldn't be my main concern but aesthetics would be nice
