Saw the video of a my 11' vs my 12' quite a difference. That car is a monster. i hate to say it but BMW "M" has seemed to have givin' up on being top dog in the under 100k catagory. The GTR, Vette, etc all have been improved nicely over current model runs. Perhaps I misjudge BMW's intent with the M3. Maybe they just want to lead the G37/mustang GT level of sports car, sigh.

How abuot an M4 then? put the TT V8 with 600hp in it, sell it at 90K? I'd go for that.

That's never been the "M" division's mission. For every year the M3 has been in existence, there has always been a cheaper or equally priced Corvette or Japanese coupe that has out-performed it in one or more objective metrics. None match the overall utility and daily usability of the M3 and that hasn't changed with the arrival of the 2012 GTR.

Did they void the warranty with that 2.9 sec run?


Anyway, I admit the GT-R is fast and a capable sports car, but that is just what it is. It will compete against the Corvette and Porsche (kind-of), but I would sooner take a CTS-V or an M3 sedan before the GT-R. Or as a second car, since I am over the age of 30.

Some great bargains from Japan, but stock for stock, I can't think of any that outperform either the e46 or e9x M3 during their time. GTR excluded.

I simply want the M3 to be the standard to which others are judged. As the
1M seems to be filling the original role of the M3 how about the M3 take on the heavier competition. i.e. gtr, vette, 911T(barely). I see the the next M3 with just a tuned version of the 6TT as a downgrade(no offense). The M6 will be more of a luxury GT than a sports car. So how about the M3 with TTV8 550hp still leading the pack so to speak.

Anyone else willing to pay say 80-90K for an M3 at that performance level?

I understand where you are coming from but as has been pointed out, there has always been some cheaper form of performance from either the US side or Japanese side. I remember the 98 Mustang Cobra was poised against the E36 M3 (US) and the Cobra cleaned its clock.

Congrats! I can't wait to hear your thoughts on the new car.

Mine is currently showing an ETA of 3/25/11. It is getting harder to wait now that '12 GT-R's are starting to be delivered.

Cabinetman, your wait isn't too far off. I am getting 3M clearbra put on mine.
I would highly recommend it. I didn't on my old GTR and regretted it. I shredded the front end (especially the front bumper) and it needed to be repainted before I sold.

Another weak pic, just off the truck.

I'm planning to do the 3M clear bar on my entire hood, front bumper cover, front fenders and the mirrors. My 2011 GT-R got a few decent nicks on the nose in less than 4k miles or driving. What is interesting is my 2011 Mustang GT-500 is nick free after almost 3k miles. The paint is either tougher or I'm not driving it hard enough.

The wait isn't too much longer, but I keep seeing posts from guys who have already taken delivery over on NAGTROC and it is making me even more anxious. The first couple of months waiting weren't too bad, however the last couple of weeks are going to suck. At least my dealer is really good at keeping me updated. My salesman even stopped by my office to give me a 2012 brochure when they finally got them in.

After 19k miles on my 2009 GTR the front end looked like it had been sandblasted. The paint is not even close the quality coming out of Germany.
I never had more than a tiny rock chip on the umpteen German cars I have owned. I never thought about Clear Bra until the GTR damage.
That said I have bnever owned a car that could accelerate like a GTR. Freakin rocket.

I initially was going to clear-bra the front...

But then I found that the cost to re-paint is rather similar to the clear-bra.

So I decided I'll just get it re-painted when the time comes.

In the past I've had chips just beyond the edges of clear-covering - which I figure is taken care of with a re-paint. Win-Win.

Looking good! You may be one of the lucky few with a 2012 for quite some time considering what happened in Japan.

Does the car ride better in comfort mode compared to your old one? Also, how are the sound levels inside the car?

Just came from the Auto Show in Calgary and they're projecting nothing for '12's until the summer due to the disaster over there. Apparently their shipping yard was decimated (according to a sales guy, so who knows?).
