M3 brakes squeak :(

Funny how my 335i brakes didn't squeak until the pads needed changing... but at under 2k miles.. the M3 has some squeak

Fun... :/

I'm assuming I'm not the only one right?

Try a few 50mph-10mph stops as hard as you can without engaging ABS, if your pads have developed a glaze this will get rid of it and stop the noise.

Brake pads on the M3 are supposed to squeak - different material than normal brake pads.

Um... I did say that I assume it is normal [well technically i said I'm assuming I'm not the only one...but that means the same thing).. thus I wasn't saying "o no is my car broken?!? should i go to the dealer right away?!?"

mine would squeak when my foot is lightly on the gas pedal from a standstill with 2k miles on it...like going 0-5mph....usually when u are getting ready to park the car....i then did a few hard breaks like when coming off the fwy offramp and havent heard it since....i think the brakes were sticking...but the manual does say they supposed to noisy so...no harm no foul

i haven't really done any hard braking at all

I know of 3 instances in the 2k I've had it where I had to stomp on the brakes to avoid hitting the guy in front, a dip, and some rock thing on the street
but that's it

+1.......do I have to go on my infamous "don't buy an ///M3 if you want to go off-roading and don't buy a plane to go fishing"?

Do ya think that maybe, just maybe, you bought a performance car that thus has performance parts that might be more focused on performance then luxury?

There are more stupid threads than normal good threads around here........boy this place has really gone to sh*t fast.....I don't mean to sound like a complete dick (though I know I do) but BMW monitors forums and consumer polls in general and the more of these threads they see the more they think they need to water down the ///M line and be more concerned with cup holders, squeaky breaks and easy to drive torquey cars rather than performance focused cars.

Cheers,
e46e92

squeaky brakes mean they aren't working. Don't drive the car ever again, or it may burst into a ball of flames.

No squeaking here... Maybe it's your mineral white!

Just kidding. I think mine did squeak a little around break in. But no more.

Pretty amazing responses to a question of squeaky breaks...

Mine squeak sometimes if I just feather the brake pedal, which is normal. If they squeak with normal braking, then you might have deposit build-up on your rotors. Try the solutions posted above if that's the case. Good luck.

Brake hard a few times, maybe something is stuck in the brakes.

You can always go to the dealer and have them check out the car.

You should hear the brakes on my buddys SLR - I've never heard anything squeak louder than those carbon ceramics. Unreal.

Take it easy bro...he was just asking a simple question that personally I don't feel was stupid. The man wants to know why his car sounds like cats having sex when he brakes...nothing wrong with that. Take a chill pill

Yeah the mineral white causes problems left and right
with people asking what color it is... where did i get it... lol

Funny part about all of this is... I didn't ask "Why are my brakes squeaking?"

I stated that I do not think that I am the only one...meaning I acknowledged that this is normal

Thanks :P
But I'm used to that type of reaction on forums; I had a lot of it during my early e90 days lol
And I've seen a lot of it (like the one where the guy asked about the powerdome; I don't think he wanted to ask why it's there as we know it's a lot for looks, but also if it's reallly a necessity, or something like that.. I got bored with that thread)

I've worn mine down like crazy at the track, never any significant squeaking that stands out in my mind... I would remember cause I know I'd have found it really annoying.

I'd definitely try some hard breaking as that's fixed that problem for me in the past.

If I may chime in, I went from a Cherokee srt8 beast to this e90 M3
My Cherokee's brakes squealed soo bad I had the brakes switched out on two separate occasions by the dealer.
High performance brakes have a lot of metal on metal grinding and the mini vibrations that occurs in between the metal causes the noise.
So your concern should not alarm you.
The brakes I had on the Cherokee were the stock brembos the truck came with.

The hard stopping might relieve some of it but it will return, I have only heard it on my M
When I pull up real slow into my drive way, other then that I don't hear it at all.
There is absolutely nothing you can do.
If you like go to the Cherokee srt8 forums and just read about the brake squeal they are experiencing it's like a cancer epidemic on that vehicle. Good luck
