Hmm.

Seems like it would cause more accidents, due to the fact that it turns the drivers' attention away from the road to assess a most likely harmless situation. Also seems like it would be a waste of research

The system monitors both sides and tries to guide you via the HUD. Here's a German video about it:

This is already available in some Lexus models. I think it is a worthwhile idea.

Nice idea but useless for those of us dealing with congested roads/bad drivers on a daily basis. If the car adjusted my direction every time a cabbie shaves me, I'd end up in the back of a parked car.

the first thing that comes to mind is a pothole situation. you are trying to avoid it, sway a little right or left and get "too close" to another car or barrier, and the system automatically turns the car back into the line of the pothole.

Nothing should control the steering but the driver. Pointless technology.

seems like a terrible idea to me....unless you can really counteract the movement like he said.

Mirror have blind spots. Even in a small car like my 1er. I always turn my head esp when i'm pushing it on the highway and switching lanes like a douche...turning my head has definitely saved me from some accidents.

I think BMW must be moving the "boys" that worked on the RFT issues into a new building and / or design group

What is next will the BMW come with a robot that we just talk to to take us to our destination?

Where is the Joy in all that I ask?

In all honesty I must say the more gismos we add to our cars the more unsafe the roads will become.

What happens if the guy next to you comes closer and closer will your car eventually end up in the concrete divider? I don't know if I should be continue I know this I would never get a car with that sort of crap.

near the end of the video, he says:
...." even if a steering moment is started, he can always counter act it and assert his own wishes as a driver".......

I think this is great!

Actually there's a trick to eliminate the blindspots created by your sideview mirrors. If you can see the side of your car in your sideview mirrors, you're using them INCORRECTLY.

To set the driver's sideview mirror place your head against your driver's side window and adjust the mirror until you can see the side of your car in it.

To set the pass sideview mirror, place your head right in the center of the car, right above the shifter, and adjust until you can see side of the car in the mirror.

This shifts the blindspots out a lane further than where they used to be, therefore virtually eliminating them. This method is actually taught at the BMW Performance driving school in SC.

the system is not so useless ... it just need to have the option turn OFF ... or when you're driving more than 50-60 KM/H the sistem should be turned off automaticly
