Major Door Ding

Came off my 13 hour shift to find a note on my windshield from a guy apologizing for leaving a door ding on my passenger side. So I walk around expecting to see a chip in the paint. The body line has a 1 inch dent in it with a loss of paint and another smaller dent and chip below. That door got hammered.

So I call the guy to get the story. He's apologetic and tells me the wind (that can gust pretty good in our upper lot) got a hold of his truck's door and smacked my car. He offers to pay for repairs. I tell him that I really appreciate that he left a note, and that unless it's an astronomical price to repair the damage that I'll take care of it myself. I was just amazed that there are still people out there that will take responsibility for their actions. Maybe he'll tell his friends that some guy with a BMW was cool to him for owning up to a mistake.

That is amazing. I thought the note would have read "Hi, I really wacked the hell out of your door. I'm writing this note because someone saw me do it and I'm pretending to leave my information so they don't write down my license plate number. That looks like a really expensive repair. BTW, cool car."

sorry about your ding, I know it can hurt really bad. on a side note, atleast you got a note on your shield with a number and an apology. My 09 Camry got backed into twice in our (work) parking lot which busted the rear bumber. I replaced it last year for $625 and again this year for $634.

The security folks caught the "doc" on tape last year when he backed into my car and we had to confront him with the tape. This year they were not able to catch it on the camera.

I am sorry to hear that, I hope it is not that expensive to fix it. Also nice to see still there are honest people who take responsibility for their actions.

I had a BIG door dent from a POS truck on a windy day. $1200 to repair, he had no insurance, I was out $250. My insurance company is trying to get some of their $$ money back. Good luck, make sure they use little or no filler, take it to a top line shop.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune I always park far away form others besides a nice walk is good for the figure and ones health

Yes there are still nice people in the world, only they are getting less and less. Near where I live there is a tire shop "Canadian Tires" one day a American couple had wheel problems. They had a plane to catch in order to attend a wedding. So the Service manager drove them to the Buffalo Airport (some 2 hour drive for him). After the wedding the car was ready so he picked them up again from the airport. The couple wrote to the local newspaper about the kindness of the man and it made a wonderful story. Yes there are still a few good people around.

I always let people into the traffic from side streets, it is funny to see that then they do the same thing letting other people in. I guess one good deed deserves another. More of us should do it it be a better world.

Cheers,

Rolf-Dieter

My walk into the plant is a half mile on a normal day. We're in a maintenance outage right now so all lots, fields, curbs and shoulders are being used by a thousand temporary workers. We take any spot we can find.

Wow, nice to hear there are a few decent people left in the world. Despite your own pain (and man, can I sympathize with you), the damage without a note ........well, there's a few of us who know what that's like!!

Amazing that there are still people that are concerned about others property. Most people today don't care about their own car much less someone else's. Kudos to this guy

Same thing happened to me with the M6 about 2 weeks ago! Guy backed up into the bumper lightly. Left a note with his name and number Luckily it wasn't any damage just needed to replace the clear bra.
Looks like it paid for it's self already lol

Your response to him was just as noble as him leaving the note.

Big thumbs up to you Joe!

My wife used to hate where I park. She calls it "DFZ." (Dent Free Zone) She hated it until I bought her a new car. Now she's on board. Park where no one else is going to park next to you.

Not an option for the OP.

Hope it will look good as new! Glad to know there are some honest people left.
