Leaving the M3.....
Well, just got word that the M3 is going bye bye over the Idle Valve Actuator issue.
After a bad experience with the 335i I had, and now the same fate with the M3, I am leaving BMW. The 335i and the M3 were my 1st and 2nd experience with BMW respectively. As nice as the M3 does everything pretty well, they just don't have a very good handle on their fuel systems. Both cars meet the same fate for fuel related issues. Next up......... 2011 Shelby GT500 w/ the SVT package and Electronics package. I wish I could hold out for the upcoming Boss 302, but the timing just isn't quite right. I am looking forward to my 1st Ford product in over 15 years. I will miss the added luxury that BMW offers over Ford, however I think the performance/handling I gain over the M3 will more then make up for losing a few creature comforts. My time here has been fun and most of the members are good peoples. So take care all, and enjoy what might be the last days of high HP cars, once CAFE regulations start coming into play. ![]()

Sad to hear, how many miles did your M3 have?
I have had good luck with BMWs so far but dont blame ya for wanting to leave after having two lemons.

If you're selling your M3 because your idle valve went out and this is the only problem that you've had with your M3, then I think you might be overreacting a bit due to your 335i past. The idle valve is not like the HPFP: I've never heard of anyone having replaced their idle valve more than once, unlike an HPFP. Either way, good luck.

Yeah, what's the story here? I worry about my idle valve NOT going out before warranty expires, because it's expensive. But it's a minor issue. And by now probably every dealer has worked on one already. Guess you were looking for an excuse then
. MUCH rather drive an M3 than any mustang, even with 500+ HP, but to each his own. Good luck. |

A case of bad luck I hope. My M3 is the first BMW that gave me no problem so far. Good luck with the Shelby GT500.

I did just the opposite, went from a 2010 GT500 to a 2011 M3. You will never know until you try it, cars are like girlfriends; new one is always exciting but you will find the faults pretty quick unless its 'the one.'
I had a bad GT500, most problems I ever had with a new car and I have been buying new cars for 32 years, two of them stopped the car from being driven. But, just like here, there are people who have zero issues with their M3 and you did have problems so who knows. Its a fun car for sure, just hope you get a good one. |

My upcoming m3 will be my 9th new BMW in the last 8 years. Worst prob was that my power steering went out on my 08 550i on the drive home after a routine service at the dealer. I think the dealer messed something up but they fixed and all good. Good luck with the ford and when that one starts to hiccup there's always Porsche. All the best!
Btw good fam friends bought two new escorts for their two kids in the 90s. Both were leaking oil on day 2, no exageration. But from the looks of it seems ford is getting better.

Leaving BMW for Ford quality? Sounds a bit perplexing but, whatever. I've had 5 BMWs and have never had any major issues.
All cars have some issues, no doubt. I will say though, Ford is getting their act together. Now if only the U.S. auto makers can rid themselves of those scummy leaches, the UAW, we (Americans) could actually start making great stuff.

Ford has made a product at least equal to any other American car brand, not until recent times has any of them stepped up the quality. Not because they WANTED to thats for sure But these days 60% of the parts are made in Mexico and wherever and they are just screwed together by robots (both electronic and UAW) so a lot of issues are caused by junk outsourced parts and not the unions. |

![]() PS. More and more people are getting pi**ed with BMW (RFT, HPFP, 19" Wheel cracks, Sound Systems, whats's next). if they don't watch it more and more will look elsewhere. I think what is needed some BMW department heads need to assemble in the board room and explain then they should hear the sweet words ........................ Your Fired ! |
