Quart of oil low after about 5500 miles, is this normal?

My previous 330ci was never a quart low before a yearly oil change until it was 5 years old. I'm wondering if being a quart low this "fast" is normal.

+1

S65 will burn some oil when properly flogged on a routine basis.

lol i literally asked the same question last week. I went to the dealership because i was getting paranoid and they took care of it and gave me an extra bottle of motor oil to drive around with.

a full quart? seems high for 5500 miles. I have to agree with Trier.

It is normal for all M engines. Your car is fine. I believe the harder you push the car, the more you'll use or maybe the sooner the engine will ask you to put more oil.

I'm about half a quart every 2000 miles, so sounds about right...I've actually never gone more than about 3000 miles without an oil change though

ABnormal. It simply means you havent been driving your car hard enough. As others have noted. I too had to put in a quart at 3700 miles. Dealer offers free top offs in between the oil services so it's not a big deal.

It costs me more to drive to the dealer than to just buy the damn oil myself.. *shrug* bought a 12-pack and filter to do a 8500 mile oil change anyway.

If the oil gage is right I've burned 0.5 quarts in 2000 miles.

I think he was contrasting with the S62. In other words he's saying it could be worse if the OP had an E39 M5. Granted, I might be reading too much into his post. Plus, I don't think a normal S62 will burn that much oil - that's pretty crazy if they do though.

it's normal. I've an M3 2010 and I finished completely the oil in 6000km. At that point I asked the vendor to remove the remaining oil and fill in with new oil (the original oil is different from the standard one) and then after 4000km I din't consume any oil (still full)

The refill is about 8 litres, quite expensive at 30€/litres

Enjoy your beast and don't pay too much attention to this small details
