Quart of oil low after about 5500 miles, is this normal?

My previous 330ci was never a quart low before a yearly oil change until it was 5 years old. I'm wondering if being a quart low this "fast" is normal.

S65 will burn some oil when properly flogged on a routine basis.

lol i literally asked the same question last week. I went to the dealership because i was getting paranoid and they took care of it and gave me an extra bottle of motor oil to drive around with.

It is normal for all M engines. Your car is fine. I believe the harder you push the car, the more you'll use or maybe the sooner the engine will ask you to put more oil.

I'm about half a quart every 2000 miles, so sounds about right...I've actually never gone more than about 3000 miles without an oil change though

Sounds normal, s62's burn about a quart every 800 miles!

ABnormal. It simply means you havent been driving your car hard enough. As others have noted. I too had to put in a quart at 3700 miles. Dealer offers free top offs in between the oil services so it's not a big deal.

It costs me more to drive to the dealer than to just buy the damn oil myself.. *shrug* bought a 12-pack and filter to do a 8500 mile oil change anyway.

If the oil gage is right I've burned 0.5 quarts in 2000 miles.

I think he was contrasting with the S62. In other words he's saying it could be worse if the OP had an E39 M5. Granted, I might be reading too much into his post. Plus, I don't think a normal S62 will burn that much oil - that's pretty crazy if they do though.

it's normal. I've an M3 2010 and I finished completely the oil in 6000km. At that point I asked the vendor to remove the remaining oil and fill in with new oil (the original oil is different from the standard one) and then after 4000km I din't consume any oil (still full)

The refill is about 8 litres, quite expensive at 30€/litres

Enjoy your beast and don't pay too much attention to this small details
