Not possible to open the doors..
Hi guys..
I have a strange problem... It is impossible to open the doors on my car.. Let me fill in what happend.. I have bought a light damaged M3 E93, I have replaced the most of the damaged parts on the car and took the car to the painter.. where I dismounted the last parts as door handles, luggage lock and so on before paint. After the car was painted I had to move the car my garage (with the parts dismounted) when I came to the garage I wanted to get out of the car.. I couldn't.. it was impossible to open the door.. I tried to unlock it with the central lock button but still not possible to open the door.. the central lock is open and close as it should.. I decided to try the passanger side but it is the same.. it is impossible to open the door even there.. I tried to lock and unlock with the remote.. still the same.. I was trapped inside the of my own car.. ![]() Now you probably think why didn't you pull down the windows and climb out.. I could take down the windows but I had dismounted the door sides as well before paint .. that means no buttons for the windows.. ![]() Luckily the windows was half way down.. so after hard work with bending my not so flexible body I could climb out.. I have now tried everything with the door locks but I just can not open the doors.. ![]() Do you have any suggestion?? BTW sorry for my english it is not my nativ language.. |

fuses first
Check the fuse box first I believe it's fuse 55 & 57. Then check the door lock actuators. If the lock actuators have been replaced/damaged you may need to have the progman updated to recognize a new master door lock actuator. This would need to be done at a dealer or independent shop with the proper Bosch interface.
The car may also still be under warranty a dealer may not know it has a salvage title (or Swedish equivalent). Worst they could do is turn you away. There is a TSP for E9x IRT this problem. Problem is caused by silicone contamination in some of the earlier door lock actuators. The silicone causes a spike in voltage that blows the 15A fuse. First step is to replace the 15A fuse with a 20A fuse and the check the locks to see if they work. Good luck

Happened to me 2 weeks ago.
Dealership replaced fuse to different one (15 ohms or whatever to 20) and replaced all door actuators. So just make service app. It's not common issue on the M3s but it was somewhat known issue (at least for dealership) for E9X 3ers. For time being, you need to use your physical key to unlock your car. And if you need to open gas door, just take off battery cover and you'll see green plastic wire, just pull that wire to open gas door. When it happened to me, I opened driver side door with a key then open/lock the locking mechanism 10-15X with my fingers in the side of door (where child safe lock is). It actually helped me to use door handle inside of the car. If you can open pass door somehow, try that too for mean time. Other than that, nothing worked, no touching the door handle, no lock/unlock button in the center console, no door handle/knob from the inside. Even called Roadside Assistant to remote unlock. Nothing worked.

1st M3
Your the first I have heard of this problem in the M3. Not surprising BMWs share many of the same components across the line.
Having the two lock actuators set me back 600 bucks (out of warranty), but I was given a free loaner for 3 days so I guess I got a good deal.

Door Actuator - door locks won't open
I just had this happen last night. So embarassing when the whole family is standing in the cold after dinner and I try to open the doors using every method (center lock button, remote, comfort access and manually pulling the handles from the inside and nothing worked). Brought the car in today and they said its most likely the actuator.

At least on my E92 M3, the doors open mechanically, and even if they're locked, the first pull unlocks them. Yeah, a mechanical actuator could fail, but both at the same time seems extremely unlikely. Something was not assembled right IMO. Good day.
