ANGEL EYES - LED vs HID - opinions? suggestions?

From my prior post asking about LCI stuff I gathered that headlights are all the same on e90 m3 stuff or e92/e93 stuff so any of the aftermarket angel eye kits that are plug and play should work on my 2009 e90 m3.

that being noted, if you were to choose between the LED kits that are becoming more readily available and the HID kits out there, which would you choose and why?

which brands have been tried and true for those who have owned theirs a while now? i saw on several threads that people had burnt out bulbs, people had bulbs burning hotter than factory and melting the light fixture altogether, people having flickering, etc.

This will be my first modification - quick (and hopefully easy), cheap, and immediately noticeable.

any feedback is always appreciated from those whove been through this stuff a time or two!

I'm going to do a DIY LED on my car. I chose this route because of the brightness and the equal lighting output.

HID seems like there is more to go wrong and will definitely be much hotter than the LEDs

HID is far too bright. You cannot even look into your headlights with them.

really? from prior postings it looked that LED lighting would be the more vibrant choice...

also with regard to burnouts i feel the LED technology would last a bit longer... one of the brands being considered advertised 100,000 hours of continual use - around 10 years according to them (which their math is either really bad or they dont really last 100,000 hours and only 87,000 but whatever ill sell the car before that time)

DIY as in youre making the housing and all? or DIY as in buying a kit and just installing on your own?

I've been considering the same. I like the look of the Alpine HID kit and the fact that you can change colors. It seems to have good feedback too.

The AiB kit looks nice too. The finished product looks great but it's pricey and you're limited to white light.

The Alpine HID kit is the kit. Take a look at it in person before you make your choice.

buying the kit and installing them. I have the kit just haven't had the time to do it... At the end of the day, it will look exactly like OSS angle eyes.

OSS and Umnitza both use the same product, both use Orion V2's...

no one is discrediting the brightness of HID kits, especially Alpine's..some just think it's too bright, even blinding (especially the inner halo). I read a post buy Alex@alpine in a thread about him putting something out that's above LED, but below HID...he mentioned sometime around december, not sure if that timeline is still going to happen due the recent unfortunate accident him and his m3 was involved in...

Go with the Alpine HIDs, can't go wrong. I'm in love with mine and have gotten compliments left and right, even some cops said they loved the color- 10,000k

alpine hids have no problem with the lights melting away the housing? considering the more vibrant coloring i only assume it would be a light that increases temp as it is on longer periods of time

does the city vision one have an issue with the outer rings being bright enough? kind of appeared that way in a few pics but i do like dealing with someone who is active on the forums and has hands on experience installing. is this your highest recommended angel eye?

So on the LED front, what is the difference between say the City Vision solution ($149) and the Angel iBright ($299) or the WeissLicht Brand Ultra-Bright LED ($149)?

This is probably the first mod I plan on doing on my M3 due early Jan... trying to get a bunch of little mods done right out of the gate, but the Angel eye lighting seems to be one where there are 50 different options with wildly varying cost.

I had the OSS Design earlier this year before I gave the car back to BMW. I am now going to get my second set of OSS Design. I was definately satisfied and pictures really dont do justice the work that is put into them....
