407.7whp/290.2wtq Bolt-on M-DCT build up

Stock vs. Current

Recap:

MS Drop in filter
Gintani 18% pulley kit
Gintani Sport axleback exhaust
Primary cat delete out of stock x pipe (Stock secondaries/resonators are left intact!) If anyone wants to sponsor me a real x pipe ill re-dyno it
RPI Scoops
Custom street/dyno tune BT/OE Tuning
93 Octane E10

Brief history for MY own research, I didn't go part by part like I wanted to for individual deltas as time didn't cooperate.

Stock: 340whp

+MS filter 351whp delta 340-351whp (11whp) (my stock filter wasn't great had 15k on it and is the charcoaled 09 type)

+RPi scoops 354whp delta 351-354whp (3whp)

+Custom EZflash OE tune +Gintani mufflers (-MS FILTER -RPI scoops for testing) 340-366whp delta (26whp)

+Custom EZflash OE tune (suited for primary delete) +Gintani pulley +Test pipe 366whp to 398whp (32whp)

+Fixing RPI scoops to actually feed the airbox inlet (they were found to be positioned against the radiator titled backwards) 407.7whp (+9.7whp)

So, are my results bible fact in stone? Not necessarily - I'm not a scientist and don't care to spend the time to get the scientific method down perfect. There were different air temps as I live in New England wacky weather. But we ran the same SAE setting with the same factory gear ratio file and fan setup to keep it as consistent as possibly while watching IAT's, AFR, and coolant temps to keep each run close. I ran each configuration 3 times for consistency when levels stabilized. Anyone with this setup should see a 70whp delta on 93 and a 60-65whp on 91. The other people in my research who parallel these results are JonMartin, and Vic55 over 400whp on dynapack and DD. Both their cars were 6speed but I have the luxury of nice 93 E10 fuel.

Thanks for reading.

Hi Robert,

I jumped the gun with this post. I have all the run files at home I just need to find an hour and comply them all in the viewer. I am definitely not as neat as you are with your results, and I'm being honest about it. My dyno operator has been known to be a bone head from time to time, and not save the results after a few or two and we'd have to "re-do" which IIRC was the poorly position RPi scoop 398 to 407.7 runs.

As stated - this may be slightly off base as I stated I started with a charcoaled filter with less then desirable amount of debris on it (15k)

IIRC others have shown 7-8whp from a filter? 2010+ non charcoaled models may see less gain.

Nice gains! Didn't think the RPi scoops made any much of a difference. I gotta pick these up..

Me neither until I tried them. For the $90 or whatever they cost, or even cheaper now - it's kind of a no-brainer mod.

I'm looking for a full X with resonators and X following closer to the headers like the RPi and Gintani design. These designs seem to make the most power. If i wanted to acheive a sosi design I could gut the rear cats or weld in test pipes.

I just can't see the scoops making a difference because of the way the airboxes are designed.

Here's the thing: On my E60 M5, there were two paths into the airbox. There were the holes from in front of the radiator (clearly a higher pressure zone) and the ducts from the brake ducts. The RPI scoops on that car are best when you block off the other path into the airbox.

The M3 has 3 pathes into the single airbox, the front scoops, the hood vent and the brake duct. I simply can't see pressurizing the box at all with 2 other paths out, especially with airflow going over the car, that most people without a wind tunnel can't simulate in most dyno cells.

But what do I know?

Great gains. OEtuning and gintani exhaust is a legit combo for power. Glad to see you made power with the RPi scoops like I did.

Nice numbers.

Scoops are BS though. There has been an extensive, detailed and technical debate on them here long ago in the forum. There has never been a shred of definitive proof they offer any gains. Dig around and try to find those threads.

Apparently not that extensive of a debate because they were installed on and off the dyno and re-directed into the scoop correctly on the dyno. I see 1-2hp variance run to run, but not ~10whp.

I could careless about RPi or Eloy, just showing my findings.
