5 seconds in one lap, in a comparable street car, is a lot of time.

That makes me feel better, this friend is the type to always self promote and buy a new car every year because the model year must never be older then the calendar year.

Like Signes said, 5 seconds of a 2:20 course is a ton of time.

5 seconds per lap off of a pro time after only 4 events is probably doing pretty well...

But there will be plenty to learn - unless he's Luke Skywalker.

In a road car with stock brakes and street tires the limits just aren't that high. It would be much more impressive if he was 5 seconds off the pro in the racecar. Sounds like it was his 4th time at this particular track not sure of his overall experience level. For myself I usually feel comfortable at a new track after 10 to 12 laps, certainly after 4 DEs. If it was his 4th time ever going to a DE then that is doing pretty well!
