Left Brake Lamp Malfunction..AGAIN??

what is up with this? as soon as it it gets cold (below 50 degrees), my car
(2009 e92 m3) seems to have this problem. But when i press the brakes, everything looks fine. When it happened last year, the warning came on, then it went away on it's own, then came back again...so I took it in and I beleive the repair sheet said they replaced the rear brake lamp bulb. But this time, it wont seem to go away. But nothing seems wrong. Should I be alarmed and take it in right away? or what..pretty annoying to be honest :P

thanks for your help

I have the same thing on my right side tail lamp or my car tells me that I do, but it seems fine. It also only happens when the temps drop down to 50 degrees.

Same thing with my left rear lamp. Lamp is fine. Happens once every couple months. Maybe a couple starts in a row. Not really sure what the issue is.

I think there are backup bulbs in the housing unit, so if there is a light out, you won't be able to notice

Its a loose bulb connection there is an updated housing and antivibration strip (piece of foam tape) installed takes 5 minutes and is $20 in parts to do it yourself. Or you can drop it off at the dealer and have them do it.

+1

I had the same issue but a visual inspection didn't show any burnt bulbs. Took it to the dealer and the had to replace a bulb.

Wow, this is the first i'm hearing about it being a "known" problem, but i had it happen to me only ONCE. The warning light came on but when i looked at all my lights they were working properly. The light went off on its own later that day.....weird. I have about 15k miles on my car('10 E92) and it happened around 12k miles.

Guys, I kept getting the warning and the light seemed fine. But you have to look really closely, because the brake light has 2 blubs. It's a bit hard to see, but I'm pretty sure one of them is burnt. I took it in, and they changed the bulb while the car was still in the lot, it took 10 seconds.

The warning comes on but after a few taps on the brakes, it goes away. Weird...

Had the same problem with my right rear light. Dealer said theres a SIB and installed some anti vibration strips to both rear lights. Ironically, shortly after doing this my other light acted up also. After a few months now, no issues so it must have worked.

Same here. The above SIB fixed the problem!

I get it as well, seems to be a very common problem. I wouldn't worry about it though.
