I'm sitting on the fence when it comes to the Akra Evolution. I like everything about it except for the discoloration of the tips. I understand the reason why it happens but I really don't like crusty/dirty looking tips. If Akra would come out with some Polished tips I would buy it in a heart beat. I know that they had the polished tips out for awhile but pulled them for one reason or another.

i agree with u 110% on that statement....the tips will look dirty and brown yellow looking after a year and even if u clean it, wont do jack...i have a white car so thats gonna stand out like a sore thumb..if i had black, maybe i wouldnt care so much...polished look is the way to go for me...plus im spending 6k on it and i want EVERYTHING to be perfect from the getgo...dont want buyers remorse down the line when the tips start to look crusty

I have used NEVR DULL on the tips once already and it worked wonders. Looks brand new. I am talking about the grime off course.
The discoloration on the inside of the tips is here to stay. I for one likes it quite a bit. The outside of the tips won't change color unless it's intentional.

I am also in the same boat! Just started looking at the Akra, but I love the sound of the Eisenmann and the black tips. The cost is a little high for cat back exhaust, small hp gain + sound difference

Akrapovic does not have any other options on tips at the moment. While they don't offer other options, we do offer the matte/satin/gloss black tips for our customers. Please PM me if you have any other questions.

I think slipon is pretty nice for the weight saving. But like people say, if you were to do it. might as well go all out.

i want this evo system. 3 questions:

1. will it pass smog in CA? I dont want to take it off in a few yrs and back and forth

2. Will this make my car's sensors go bonkers? warning lights, or malfunctions to emissions parts?

3. Will it void my warranty?

Why did they take the tips of the market? Will they bring them back eventually?

Thanks...

The tips were never supposed to be an option from Akra in the first place, this was purely developmental to the M3 and a few sets did see the light of day.

There may be a polished option from Akra being offered in the near future.

Simple answers. There is more detail involved to these answers, but these questions have been answered ad nauseum, and conducting a search will give you greater detail.

No.

Yes.

Yes.

No, the kit will not pass smog but you can just swap the x-pipe section for smog inspection which is a very easy job. The car without a delete-r from akrapovic or an aftermarket tune will make the o2 sensors turn on. Yes, this exhaust may void your exhaust warranty and possibly others because some dealerships are horrible.

According to Akrapovic the CF tips won't be able to sustain the amount of heat that is being generated from the rear mufflers.

Another option is to Powder Coat them in any color/finish you like.

whoever estimated the loudness to change by 20% may be close in terms of actual dB, but in terms of what your ear hears, it's MUCH LOUDER with the xpipe! i'm setting off alarms by just starting the car.

slip-on is what you want if you're worried about noise.

True that. Mine sets off any car alarm even as much as cruising in the car park with it. And the metal ductings in the car park trembles as though its an earthquake. I love it but if you are concerned with noise like what Secret M said, go for the slip-on.

Sorry to say, but Jason is not correct in this point. I still have a few sets of polished tips stocked

Now only 1 set left

Powder coat does not sustain the heat also, if the car is tracked (see pictures).
After 1 day with 40 laps on the North Loop the coating came off
I tested this option also and went to matte ceramic coat, which also looked better on my frozen grey At this time the only reliable options are regular and polished tips like they come from the factory

Wow the polished tips looks pretty nice ... but is it possible to make them in chromed black like on the M3 Editionmodels?

And one very important question for me ... why Akrapovic do not develop a real street legal x-pipe section maybe with 4 100cel(200cel) sport-cats ... it doesn´t matter, if the HP gain is an little bit smaller until it is better then stock! Also Alpina has retained the pre-cats in the B3S with 400HP.

how is this possible? the akrapovic logo is still showing and i don't believe it's possible to powdercoat them while retaining the logo....so this must be painted

My information is correct and comes directly from Akrapovic. What you have is one of the few that Akrapovic did make. As for powdercoating, that doesn't look like the way powdercoating looks when it deteriorates. It usually flakes off rather than "burn" off. We have powdercoated many exhaust systems before and never had an issue.
