2007 GT3

There is one at a nearby dealer, the link is below. If considering a used Porsche what are some of the main things to look for? Is there a major service and if so what sre those costs going to be, and so on. Just thinking at this point.

looks like the only major option missing is Navi?
Not a horrible price, are you thinking of getting rid of the M3?

Not sure on getting rid of the M3, just thinking, and I don't have navi in the car. And I love that guy with the cigar in his mouth laughing at Tiger.

$82k is a good price. Nav is not common on GT3s.

Have the DME checked for any over revs and their category. Any P dealer can provide this. These cars are basically bulletproof if not abused.

Most GT3 have RMS issues but otherwise a solid car although very inpractical which will wear quickly. Check out the Renlist boards.

Hardly impractical, can be driven daily. The RMS which plagues many GT3s is nothing to worry about. Just as many don't have the issue. Arguably an RMS leak is inherent in the design and a by-product of the extreme performance this engine provides. By all means ck Rennlist.

My gt3 albiet a .2 is absolutely THE best street driven sports car I've owned; and I've owned a couple of E46 M3s, C2S, C4S and 997 turbo.

How do you compare your GT3 with your old 997 Turbo??

I assume, it would be turbo for brute highway passing power and AWD for snow traction while GT3 for its instantaneous responsiveness, feedback, track prowess, handling and chassis dynamics?? (OK, I totally ripped off what Walter Rohrl said...LOL)

I am not worried about the lack of space, weekend car and nobody has sat in my backseat in 2 years, I am trying to figure out if the Porsche will be that much better. I was aware of the overrev situation but if the DME looks good and the service history looks good, I don't know, test driving this weekend, I may have something nused!!

I personally NEED the back seats but if you don't I would DEFINITELY get it! Its a BEAUTY and has low mileage!

Anything can be driven daily if you really want to. A GT3 ( previous owner here) driven daily and pretending it to be a practical and everyday car is going to get old very fast for many reasons. I only drove mine on nice weekends and even then hated driving it around the city because it would make me feel special then suddenly like a schmuck driving a car that clearly looked like it belonged on a track with that big and funky spoiler. The looks we got drove my wife to a point that she never wanted to step in it again. It's a very special car but as a daily driver?? No way! To each their own, I guess.

I believe the 997T is the much better choice for dd.

i haven't driven a gt3, but here is my take on this.

recently i upgraded my e46 m3 coilover to ground control 400f/500r spring rate which is suppose to ride really good on the street. My drop is 0.5" all around. ride is good and handling is on rail. mind you I dd my m3 80 miles daily.

sometimes I drive my mdx to work and i just realize, damn the mdx is so comfortable. it doesn't beat me up and I don't get tired as when I drive my m3.

My point is if you want a DD, the m3 is borderline harsh enough. I'm willing to bet the gt3 is much harsher than my setup. Plus the extremely low ground clearance of the gt3 will be a real pain in the ass. I do not think the gt3 is a good DD.

Ok for track and weekend street use, but definitely not DD. I'm young and this already bug me. I can't imagine an older guys would be able to put with this on a daily basic. your body will thank you down the road.

Other than that there is no down side to a GT3 especially after you drive one and get that magical feeling. Mileage is low, and looks to be in great overall condition. Price is good as well.
One thing I will point out is that this is a very bare bones car. Very little options on it...looks like for the most part as far as I can see without pulling the vin # info sports seats.

As for DD'ing them...the 997TT is still the best DD money can buy, but you can do it in a GT3, it CAN work that way, but would you really want to? Its meant to be carving up back roads and ripping up the tarmac.
Definately a bare bones car. The sport seats are standard. The sport chrono option is a total waste of money in a GT3 and does nothing for it, unlike other 911s.

To the OP, it appears that the car is CPO'ed as well. That has a $2k value. Porsche is very stringent about what cars can be certified.

WTF

Wait, a GT3 has the option of a sunroof? WTF? This is NOT AT ALL DIRECTED TO THE OP but why on earth would dpend 40k more for a race track focused / capable car and put a sunroof in. Why not just buy a 911s?

Cheers,

All 997.1 GT3 in the US market came with sunroofs, there was no choice. A lot of potential owners complained but Porsche did it anyway. didn't really stop the car from selling well, though. At least it's not a glass panel moonroof.

my only car is a 997.2 GT3. Serves me well No problems...but be aware of squeaky brakes. Just a heads up

Also someone asked mentioned the turbo on highway....the 997.2 gt3 is as fast if not faster in a straight line than the 997.1 Turbo...the 997.1 GT3 does pretty well itself.

obviously you can mod the turbo and destroy the GT3.

Yes, kind of...

There was a local modded 997.1 TT 6speed with 516whp/536wtq SAE on a dynojet that I ran multiple times... My 997.2 GT3 (2950 lbs) was making 411 whp/300wtq SAE on the same dynojet at the time...

From 30mph to 170mph, I would be ahead by 1 car length...
From 50mph to 170mph, he would be ahead by 1 car length...

Gearing, weight (600+lbs car weight difference, and he also weight 250lbs), N/A Vs FI(Throttle response), redline difference, powerband, play big part...

He ran 11.5 at a drag strip without launching...

After that, he went catless and retuned (535-540whp), he would pull away from my on a straight at a rate of about 1 foot per second. Still, at PBIR (2.2 mile road course), he would disappear immediately from my rear view mirror within the first half of the first lap.

My point is, it would take serious upgrades ($15K+ on engine mods) to really destroy a (Exhaust/tune/high octane) 997.2 GT3...and as you now know, to get power from exhaust for the 997.2 GT3 can be done real cheap

This is with the 997.2 GT3... the 997.1 GT3 cannot compare... The 997.2 GT3 puts down 40whp more (stock for stock) than the 997.1 GT3, although the 997.2 GT3 supposedly only got 20 crank hp increase. I

I know the OP is talking about a 997.1 GT3, but I thought these real world results with the 997.2 GT3 should be noted.

wow.... I only heard that the 997.1 turbo and 997.2 gt3 were close with the gt3 being faster by a little.

Thats pretty good vs the modded turbo
