Dealership vs license plate law?

ok, I realized I haven't told the dealership to make sure
that they don't put on the front license plate when they receive
the vehicle that I ordered.

but the salesman told me(the one who sold me the car) it already
comes from the factory pre-drilled&mounted, and i can get $400 fine
by the police to not put on the front license plate.

I know my state requires front license plate, but that is just
regular ticket issue. alot of times, cops don't even care.
and I see people getting vehicles without the plates from
the dealerships just fine.

Is my salesman just telling me some lame excuse because
he doesn't want to do it? or is it really true?

I thought it is owner's responsibility to whether the owner
wants to put the plate on or not. Doesn't dealership must provide
the vehicle in the exact condition that the owner want?

At my dealership they install it no matter what. I also believe it should be the owner's choice, and the owner deals with the consequences. But I'm sure some jackass ruined it for us all, he probably got a ticket and sued or caused some legal action to happen with the dealers. Because my salesman would not take off the front plate due to the legality of it all..

When I bought my Audi TT 225 quattro, the dealer left the front bumper alone. I asked them about it before delivery, my salesman said they never drilled holes on customers cars unless they were told to do so.

I guess it just depends on the state's law. In Texas, you have to display a front plate, but it does not have to be attached to the bumper. A lot of foks here just run without one, me included.

The front plate frames are NOT installed at the VPC. It is done by the local dealership as part of the pre-deilvery service. In Illinois, the law requires a front plate, but I decided to take a chance and go without one. I specifically told my dealer not to install the front plate frame nor the stupid dealer sticker. When I picked up my car, the frame was in the trunk and my front bumper was untouched. No dealer sticker in the rear either!

If you are going to Rasmussen, I think you are screwed. I think I remember seeing all the cars with the plate holder drilled into the bumpers. They must do that once the car hits dealership.

My Mazda RX8 came without the bumper on it and they gave me the option to have them put it on for me which I liked.

I guess it depends on where you go. My salesman said he left it off because he knows most owners prefer it that way. He also offered to drill the bumper in case I got a fix it ticket. If you really didn't want the car drilled, threaten to go to another dealership, I'll bet that they'll comply.

I just sent an e-mail to the rep. at Rasmussen that I ordered my car from. Gave him my request for no front frame, he said he put the request in the shop and is 99.9999% sure it will come with no front mount. So, just ask and they'll play nice.

^ hey Accounting4Speed, is it possible that you can give me the salesman's
name? I am about to e-mail my sales rep too, but I know he is going to
claim the same BS again, on how I can't request no-license plate thing.

Wow, I thought LA, CA would be much more strict than that.

Its base fine of anywhere between $80~$100 for not having front plate.
I've got about 5 front plate tickets, but thats not stopping me from
not having them on. Any car looks better without front plate in my opinion..
Unless its one of those sexy plate like european plates.

I know its there for safety issue, but i personally think cop can always
catch you no matter where the plate is. Its really pointless law I think.
I know washington state is currently working on passing a law that does
not require front plate anymore.
