the RS4 puts out 420HP just as a simple benchmark.

I don't have the mag, but I wouldn't be surprized to see a mag rate the old M3 better than an RS4. If somebody else has a copy and the mag says the RS4 is better than just say so.

Horsepower is not everything.

However this seems like a bogus comparison. Why compare a coupe to a sedan? Plus the OP is talking about the CSL version of the M3, a completely different beast then the standard m3. I have a video of a CSL out running a Ferrari on the track so I would not be surprised if it owns the Audi.

not impossible, but it has been proven that the RS4 is faster than the M3.

im not surprised, but not saddened either cause i know that the new M3 will own this RS4. Besides the RS4 costs like 70-80k. It isn't worth it.

Actually the OP is referring to the M3 CS, not the CSL. CS is the European equivalent of the Competiton Package (ZCP) we get here in the states.

But you're right about the comparison being slightly off. They should've compared the M3 CSL and the RS4.

if you guys are talking about pure straight line performance, noflash was right. their both 0-60 in 4.8. but on the track, rs4 will take the m3 anyday. I know most of you have heard about top gear (the show) and if you look at their track times, the rs4 is like 0.02 seconds away from the lambo. ill try to find the exact lap times for the rs4 and lambo.

even if were only talking about the s4 vs the e46 m3. on the top gear track, s4 ran it in 1.30.9 and the m3 did it in 1.31.8.

yes the rs4 isint that fast 0-60, but once its on the track...its over

Audi RS4s' 0-60 time is not 4.8, it's less. The 0-62mph time is what equates to 4.8 seconds

Yes, the M3 does reach 0-60 in 4.8 seconds, but 0-62mph takes 5.2 seconds, bearing in mind that 0-62mph figures are only shown for European models, which I think have 10 more horsepower over the US models. (343bhp as opposed to 333bhp)

Naturally in the real world those figures are meaningless simply because too many factors are involved. But, Quattro means more traction off the line and more grunt means it will stay ahead at mid-range. I doubt it will be a walk through for the RS4 though, it does weigh more than the M3, but do bear in mind the old RS4 still could give the M3 a run for it's money. If going against an M3 CSL, it probably won't stand a chance because of it's weight.
