So, is it technically illegal to put on a different exhaust? I was under the assumption that it is when I got the Tubi, but then there are so many of us and other car drivers, including those coffee can civics, that do this sort of thing. Heaven forbid we want to make our cars look, perform, and sound better. I guess there wasn't enough gang activity last night to keep the Burbank police busy.
In California the law states. "It is Illegal to modify ones exhaust for the sheer purpose of increasing the noise, it must follow the California vehicle sound code"

(You have an excuse saying, that its not for noise, its for performance)

The sound code states "All Vehicles must not exceed 95db's at 50ft. During any time"

CSB but on some sort of serious level some cops can really be cool.

I got pulled over going to starbucks before heading to bimmerstock so the cop can talk to me and ask if I was heading out there and continued to tell me about how nice my car sounds and that he wanted to go so bad but had to work. I said "fuck work jump in lets go" lol

No ticket, or even a real warning! He heard the car revving in a parking lot with some friends after work. I think he was just checking the thing out!
That's weird, your exhaust is by no means loud compared to many other systems on the market.

Please do not compare a modified M3 Exhaust with the Glorious sounds of our S65 with a VTEC Fart can....

Thank You

almost as good as this story as this one that follows ....

Highway Patrol Officer behind the tree ... stops the lady coming fast up the highway ...

Highway Patrol Officer to the lady "I've been waiting for you all day"

Lady to Highway Patrol Officer "Officer I came as fast as I could"

.... the Highway Patrol Officer then let her go with just a warning

teling the Lady "Next time take your time I'll be here all day"

To OP ... don't rev your engine in the parking lot Open the window when shifting gears and practice your rev matching

Free revving in a parking lot is very douchebag-y. While it may sound good to you, there's many non-car people that find it offensive and annoying. It doesn't matter if it's a Ferrari or a fart-can Civic - it is all the same to them. Not to mention, it might get you a "modified muffler", "excessive noise" or "display of speed" ticket from the police. Take the noise making to the track - rev all you want there.

Quite agree ... one can separate the boys from the men with that one for sure, the boys end up paying the piper (the officer) and the men drive along with a smile on there face in the still of the night with the open window listen for that perfect rev match

I would agree. Looks childish to rev a car.

How about those drivers that rev their car in their home's or apartment's parking lot ? I have a neighbor like that with a fart can honda. Annoys the hell out of me.

I'm sure you've seen your share of random people revving in Las Vegas! Every time I'm there, there's a bunch of people driving up and down the strip revving and trying to be as annoying as possible.

I don't know how you guys in Cali do it with your modified cars. I would feel like I was always looking over my shoulder.

I have those days where every corner I turn has a cop coming the other way...for the most part the LAPD has bigger problems than fancy cars that sound good and strong.

True that.

Seems highly dependent on the area I suppose. Same thing here, although there are really only a couple of suburbs with cops with nothing better to do. City cops don't care about modifications...even state troopers generally take no issue.
