M3 vs. TTRS

Just read that Audi will bring over the TTRS to North America. Gents i'm tempted to jump ship. I've always liked the TTRS. An alternative to the P cars.

Quite modable to about 450-500 hp.

Any thoughts?

its not only possible to mod it to 500hp

look at this

TTRS test run engine with 720 hp

holy mother of god.
thats not a TTRS test engine. im pretty sure thats the engine off a jet plane!!!

Thanks for the link, that thing sounded like a pissed off dragon. Any thought that audi will bring it over with the manual. Deal breaker of they don't. i was waiting on RS-5 but defected back to M3 because of no manual option.

How does M3 stack up against TTRS?

I am not sure if its an alternative to P-car but definitely competitive against 1M, z4M or the M coupe. It will take a lot more to put that power down. The headers were glowing blue and spitting fire. I can LOLBBQ marshmallow by the exhaust

TT-RS has one up on the m3 in terms of looks imo. Too bad the TT body can only seat 2 but it does have 2 trunk spaces

m3 still look better to me. i personally don't like anything the size of the tt-rs such as z4, cayman, boxter, s2000, etc. these looks like compact cars to me.

exception is c6 z06 and gt3 as these are bigger and more aggressive looking.

pushing any car in the rain is simply pushing your luck. besides, who's trying to set lap records during a rainy day on public roads anyways.

I'd rather drive an uncompromised car in the dry and deal with the compromises in the rain than drive a compromised car in the dry and have some sort of thin advantage in the rain.

This car won't appeal to everyone, either because of it's looks or because it uses awd instead or the traditional rwd chassis of most sportscars. But for the rest it is actually a bloody good car, hellish quick in a straight line and even quicker round the corners. So if you believe that being as quick as an M3 in the dry as being compromised then I must have misunderstood the use of that word for years.

Though they are only bring a total of 1000 units (750 to the US and 250 to Canada), plus it will only be offered in manual form.

At measly 300hp, that maybe true. But at high hp, awd does shine over rwd. Unless one uses slicks all the time.

God that is such low volume in Canada. I bet there won't even be a tester car available in Ontario -_-;

It's a fast car, but a boring car... That's how I'd describe it... I mean, it's just so sterile... yes, the engine sounds good, but the steering does not really communicate... the brakes, even though quite large, are worse than those on a 335i. I'm not a fan of the way the mirrors are mounted on the doors.

If you can, try and get hold of a copy of this summers Auto Bild Sports cars. They compare the Focus RS, TT RS, Porsche Cayman S, and 335i Performance.

Results:
1) Focus RS
2) Porsche Cayman S
3) Audi TT RS
4) 335i Performance

The mag doesn't really appreciate BMWs though, since the Z4 got beat by a TT RS, even though the RS is boring, etc. The reviewers look from a mass point of view, i.e. more people prefer the safety of the quattro system to the sportiness of the RWD in a BMW.

The Audi does have a better (better made) interior than the BMW.

Quattro today, I am afraid, is no longer a sports thing, but a safety thing. If you want true AWD, go for Porsche, Mitsubishi or Subaru, who still do things right nowadays.

Just my 2 cents.

Sure, the F40, McLaren or any number of sub 3,000 pound cars with big power sure did struggle to put power down. The day BMW M builds an awd car (not the dumb trucks), I'll just forget about this website and move over to Rennlist.

But the cars you are mentioning are all rear weight biased, which is the way it should be when weight is light and power is high.
