Exclamation e90 M3 or CTS-V?

Hello all! I have a bit of a delima! I have a 2010 CTS-V that I might want to trade for an 08 e90 and I don't know if I should do it. I will test drive it in Atlanta in two weeks to see how it drives. It has a clean carfax and only 21k miles on it.

If I trade the Caddy for the M3 I could get back around
6k....

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

I looked at getting a CTS V sedan to fill the void where my S63 was this past summer. I came away pretty impressed by it but never pulled the trigger on it. I've never driven a E90 so I can't say how the 2 compare but IMO you can never go wrong with a M

From what I know, except for the seating position, the sedan and coupe perform and feel almost identical.

yeah they are basically the same

I think there should be threads on the m3 vs. forum. Based on reviews, m3 will be a more precision lighter weight feeling vs. the brute force/torque of your V. So if you want straighline speed/ massive torque you might miss it going to a M.

That's the thing....I rarely get to use allll that torque and hp on a daily basis. There are no tracks close by that would allow me to do so...and I do miss having a 6-speed, my wife doesn't like the because she can't drive them in case of emergency situations. It's gonna be a tough decision

Wife needs to learn. How could you marry someone who does not know how to operate a stick?

I see no point of going from 2010 to 2008... maybe from 2010 to 2011.

IMHO, keep the Caddy and work on that wife for when you are ready for 2011.

If it was an emergency, she'd figure it out. It's not rocket science.

Wasn't it Car and Driver who did a nice comparison of the RS5, CTS-V and the E92? The M3 smoked all of them overall, except for straight-line torque/all out power. Seriously, it's a BMW. The caddy is just.....a caddy. My grandparents drive a caddy. Just my 2 cents...

You guys are funny.
The OP is asking opinions about the M3, not about the CTS-V (which he owns and probably does not need you to critique it for him).
Having driven all the current generation M3, 5, 6 extensively, and currently owning a CTS-V, my recommendation to the OP..keep the Caddy.
Is the M3 a lighter, more nimble and probably better handling car? Yes.
But the Caddy is no slouch either, capable of running sub 8 minutes at the Ring.
Based on the OPs responses and posts on how he drives his Caddy, is he going to have some sort of spiritual revelation by switching to the M3? Probably not.
I dare say that he may actually be disappointed.
Keep the CTS-V and wait for the next generation M3...

Thanks shchow! That's what I was hoping to hear! I was thinking to wait and see how the new m5 and m3's turn out power wise. I've always loved BMW's and can't wait to see the new F10 M5!

I probably wouldn't do that trade either. Especially considering the 08 would have the old iDrive.

Keep the V. No point in jumping from 2010 to 2008, and I agree with prev post (old I-Drive: FAIL) But to wait for the next gen. M3? Idk, but M5? Now that's a wortwhile wait. But based on rumors this M3 MIGHT be the first and last M3 with the V8...if that's true, then it would be great to get your hands on an 8,400 RPM V8....don't go for this M but try to find a better one if u can/want.

IMO you won't go wrong in either getting one or keeping your V. Drive both and see what satisfies you the most.
