Evolve Automotive - Stage 2 Review

It seems Evolve have been receiving some unfair and harsh criticism of late over the whole modification & gains business. Maybe not on E90Post but certainly in a few other forums. So here is a review of my recent Evolve experience......

I have always been a fan of Evolve as some of you already know, and over the past few months I been lucky enough to have been involved with them on development of their tuning the E9X M3. So this little piece should finally put some comments and opinions to bed once and for all.

I spent yesterday afternoon at Car Planet Racing after Sal mentioned he had an updated remap for my car.

As some of you already know and may have seen the dyno graphs from when I had my Evolve exhaust fitted the runs were pretty good but not ideal. The day was one of the hottest of the year as M3Fast can vouch (not good for dyno runs!) and my wheels were a different diameter to that of the OEM as I was running VMR 713’s, the diameter effects the dyno (I am sure Sal will elaborate on this as he is better equipped to explain the reasons than me). So we put out 439 HP & 325 ftLb.

So back to yesterday. Before the latest remap we ran the dyno again but this time the weather temperature was normal and I was back on my original stock wheels. Several runs later and the dyno read 453.3 HP & 324 FtLb of torque. Which is a fantastic gain of 33.3 hp over stock which is exactly what Evolve claim with this set up. I was very impressed and didn’t really know what to expect from this updated remap as 33.3 HP gain over stock was pretty damn good regardless!
10 Minutes later with the new remap flashed we started the next set of dyno runs. This lasted quite a while as the Car ‘learns the map’ from every dyno run until it peaks at its optimum performance, and what a performance as it peaked at 472.3 HP & 341. 9 FtLb, that’s 52.3 HP over stock.

The drive is greatly improved especially the low end torque. I would say the car wants to ‘go more’ and feels like its egging you to press on. Standing starts are like a rodeo bull waiting in the pen just before release and then bang. The changes redlining through 2nd to 3rd to 4th are an unbelievable difference.

This is as they say ‘proof is in the pudding’ that big gains can be achieved if done properly. There is certainly ‘No Placebo Effect’ going on here!

My set up is quite simple: Full Evolve RS exhaust system, BMC Filter, Evolve stage 2 map.

Its that good I am seriously considering in keeping my car and not to sell as planned.

Marcus

P.S Sal, Max says you owe him 10 HP.....

Thanks Marcus!

Pure remap on a standard car is around 12-15hp with increases accross the rpm range.

With our upcoming evolve-r cable there will be no warranty issues either.

Oh man, now you've done it, i'm wanting this exhaust/remap even more now,
just hope Sal can remap my PITA ECU protected by BMW...

Is this new remap the standard Evolve one for the M3 now?

you mention your setup in your post but on the graphs there's a technocraft charge pipe???

The charge pipe does nothing apart for looking good when under the bonnet.

Thinks thats the standard map now, apart from mine possibly being slightly adjusted to complement the Evolve exhaust.

Evolve,

I like the 3 different throttle maps that the standard car has. After a remap does the 'normal', 'sport' & 'sport plus' still behave in the same way?

Also, any news on the exhaust questions I always ask pls, like will pass the MOT test etc?

Cheers
