HID Angel Eye Owners/ Yellowing of Angel Eyes

For all owners of HID angel eyes. Is anyone experiencing yellowing of the inner halo plastic? I just replaced both headlight assemblies due to extreme yellowing of the inner halo plastic. I am starting to believe this was from the high heat of the HIDS since it only affected the inner halos as that is where the bulbs sit in the housing. They were on since May of 09.

I would be interested in having you check your lights and post back your results. Please look at your lights with all lights turned off and see if your inner halos plastic is yellow compared to the outer halos. I would be interesting to see if anyone else is experiencing this.

I love the look of the HIDs but don't want to put them back on if I am goign to have the same problems again.

I think if your lenses are yellowing that's due to water damage. Maybe the OP could chime in on this, was your lenses yellowing also Ben?

i really don't think it makes any difference which brand
they all use the standard $60 HID kits from ebay
the only difference is the resistors/power circuit they use

Ours is not the standard $60 eBay kit, my ballast alone cost me more then that. I know all the $35 dollar kits and I know all the $200 dollar kits, I have hand picked a select quality of ballast and bulbs to provide the best quality system. You will not see our ballast on eBay.

Then you my friend are paying too much for your ballasts
this is a picture of your ballast, from your vendor thread
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=390462

this is the same one from ebay, $55 for a pair
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HONDA...item43a13190d1

i had the same ballasts and i paid $60 for the entire kit with ballasts, i just can't find that kit now on ebay, but it's there

That is not my ballast, it is cased the same, maybe, look at the side picture of mines...

Side picture of theirs...

Also pay attention to the plugs, my plugs are either BLUE, or all black

The reason they will not show their plugs in that picture is because they use different igniters, here is their black and red tips...

They might look alike, and purchase their casing from the same factory in China, but I can assure you, it is not the same ballast, never the less, with out bulbs they are $55 on eBay.

fair enough

but my original point is if there is yellowing of the angel eyes
it would not matter which vendor or ebay kit is used
it would be a function of the UV emitted by the HID bulbs
irrespective of where you got the kit.
i know i've had one headlight replaced
and when i reinstalled the HID kits
the newer one is much whiter than the old headlight

Age, time, water, and suns UV causes yellowing also, I do not think the HIDs accelerate even by 5% as much as everything else that takes into play, your headlight replaced faced much more sunlight, water, and timing effects, can you agree with that or no?

Correct, there are less than a handful of companies in China manufacturing HID kits, with most trading companies private labeling the kits as their own. Most trading companies source the kits from EPE which manufactures in Taiwan.

Most vendors are not even aware they are using their kits - DDM is one of the largest US importers, selling these for as low as $35/set.

My yellowing was not the lens of the headlight assembly, but rather the actual plastic that light up when the halos are on. Mine yellowed horribly. You only see the yellowing when the lights are off, so my car looked horrible when parked or the halos were off.

just curious, how long did u have these hids installed before replacing your headlights. How much mileage did u do during the period?

I am using the camaross hid kit for 5 months with bout 8k miles over the period and have experienced no yellowing or melting of anything inside the headlight assembly.
