I'm sure a lot of us here enjoy driving

But I think this one falls in the Insanity category; as it's purely and way over the top reckless driving.

City, Red lights, 140Km/h on city street, style of drive & I pass

Just booked a first class ticket to Paris and a five day rental of a 599 GTB (and a carbon fiber casket for day six).

Wasn't this movie fake? The video is recorded while driving a slow car ... after that they put the sound of a Ferrari on the movie.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Claude Lelouch (born October 30, 1937) is a French film director, writer and producer.

He was arrested after his 1976 film, C'était un rendez-vous, reportedly at the time featuring a Ferrari 275 GTB being illegally driven at speeds approaching 140mph through the streets of Paris by a Formula 1 driver, was first shown publicly.

Recent claims made by the director himself, however, suggest he drove his own Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9 in the film and dubbed the sound effects of a Ferrari 275GTB. Several independent groups have verified that the car in the film never reaches past 140 km/h (85mph)

I was gonna say that it doesn't look like he's ever going as fast as the engine sounds. 140 mph in that city would look like 200 mph.

I'd imagine the gear changes in the Ferrari would've made the camera move up and down. Still, the precursor to Ronin, etc. Stupid yellow headlights

Some explanations here:
http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2005/Rendezvous.shtml

And and interview with Lelouche:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...8&q=lelouch%3E(well it isn't there anymore sorry)

It was a 450SEL and not a 275/365GTB whatever:

impressive nonetheless. he's got some balls to drive like that through a mega-city running red lights, ignoring traffic sings and speeding like that. i'm shocked no one (pedestrians) was killed.

i have to agree there was nothing even approaching 140mph. that would look like a scene from star wars if he drove it like that through the city.

Yeah, I agree too. That don't look like he's going that fast because I cruise on the autobahn at 100mph at some areas where the speed limits are none, lol.

Yup, it was a 6.9 The car uses a hydropneumatic suspension system which provided stabilization for the camera.

Pity the original audio track doesn't exist anymore, to our knowledge at least.

This was defiantly lame, there were a bunch of times he could have been side wiped. The guy goes through like 15 red lights.

Not surprised that it was actually a Merc doing the driving. I was surprised by how much the camera was leaning in the corners, and was actually wondering to myself if 70's era Ferraris actually leaned that much. Guess they didn't

Either way, glad they arrested that stroke. That kind of driving was way out of line, even if the video was cool.
