Thanks, great video. I am not a fanboi of the 1, 3 nor the M3. I see them for what they are...and they all have a valid reason to exist. I have a 135i right now, in a few months...it'll probably be gone and something else will take its place...depending on business, it could be an M3 or another Porsche or...perhaps a used Honda Accord
There is no such thing as a perfect car. If you're in the middle of the woods, a $500K Ferrari won't do much for you but a $3k truck then becomes the greatest car in the world

Enjoy your M3 in good health, great car.

I will not be taking mine to the track; but I enjoy it immensely as a daily driver. I came from a 535xi and it was no better a dd than the M3. In fact, the M3 is immeasurably more fun to drive daily.

I would not track an M3. I would be totally paranoid about damaging such a nice car.

If you can't afford to wreck it you can't afford to track it!

Also, I would not track a car that did not have racing seats, a full roll cage, 5 point harness, HANS Device, etc.

Nothing wrong with using an M3 as a daily driver. It is a great car for that purpose.

Awkward?? Please explain. I don't get that feeling from my M3 at all. I came from a 335 and I think the M3 is a far better DD...all around higher quality car, period.

don't really want to state the obvious but the only issue with this comparison is that the S4 is closer to a 335i xdrive than the M3... it seems that you currently drive a CRV. How willing are you to put up with RWD in the winter? Granted snow tires do a lot towards mitigating this problem but 70% of the people I talk to avoid RWDs for this reason.
The s4 is on the list only because I am in the snowzone and I like the interiors of audi. But I wanted a coupe to start off with.

BMW with rear wheel drive will blow anything S4 out of the snow!

Check this video out!

That was just reckless and dangerous driving[I am pretty sure the driver would have started revving after getting the go from his spotters].I don't see a season to drive that way on regular roads for sure,in fact i wouldn't do it.

S5....hmm , IMO its too much money for a not so sporty car.Its good but you r actually shelling M3 $ for a luxurious 335ish performance.Honestly the only thing that excites me of the s5 is the V8 growl.I don't see how some feel that S5 is a looker. For me the E92 is one of the best looking cars I have come across[along with the Z4].

Gogeo, have u tracked the 135?Can u throw some info on your experience with it?

OP - I am thinking about ED next year, and I don't plan on tracking the E92 M3 either. The way I see it, i am buying passion and exhilaration that is encapsulated in a machine that I can admire and experience every day. To make things more livable as a DD, I think choosing the right wheel/package combo may have some influence, and other forum members can help us out here.

I bought my car with the intention of never tracking it. For me, buying the M3 was an emotional decision-- I had wanted this car since I was a kid and when I finally had the means, I dove in. Yes, I will probably never drive this car to its full potential. But I am not the Stig. As Joe Blow every day driver, it only matters to me that every time I hit that 'Start' button, I get goose bumps. in 2013, I plan to order another E92 M3. I can't go back to a 'regular' 3 series now. Even in car crazy LA, the E9x Ms are still a rarity while I see 335s all over the place.

Track use shouldn't be part of the consideration when buying an E9x. Spending time at the track is best done with a lighter car.

I don't agree. the 335i doesn't sound/feel/look as good as the m3. those reason alone is more than enough for someone to fork out the extra money to buy the m3 IMO.

the m3 was built mainly for street with occasional track.

I would have never bought M3 if I was not going to the track, but now I realize that I am enjoying it during street driving way more than I enjoyed 335. But on paper M3 looks pointless for the street...

Seriously? The lack of low end torque compared to a 335 is not better for daily driving. I love the torque down low in the 335.
But during an HPDE, that's another story. The 335 is actually very good, but the M3 is another level.

Spending time on a track vs. racing are two very different things. I've seen people with all type of cars enjoying them at the track during an HPDE, from a Dodge Charger (station wagon), to a MB AMG S55. Unless you're in a very rural area, it's the only place you'll truely get to feel what your car is able to do, even with my limited skill. There's essentially no way for me to rev to 8,400 RPM or take a turn hard without possibly getting a ticket; there are just too many cops out there where I live.

Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by some of the top engineers in the world because some guys sponsored by a company told you it's "better??" But when you ask the same guy about tracking, "oh no, I have a kid now" or "I just detailed my car." or "i just got new tires."

AMEN, brother!

It's a great daily driver. My E93 will never see track time, but it's a great car.

+1 I came from a 330I and then a 550I and I think the M3 is definitely more fun as a DD than my 330I. Granted I can't compare to a 335.
