Ambient Air Sensor issue

Hi all - just started doing something weird. Indicated air temp hovers between 47f-50f. Not the usual -40/122 error. It's 25-35f degrees out so definitely an issue there somewhere.

I've hunted all over for the info and it's fairly outdated (e39 info for example) and not fully relevant to e9x m3.

Some questions -

is this calibratable? (does that short the terminals of the sensor work on our cars?)

does this sensor feed data to ECU for anything other that HVAC operation and display of outside temp for user?

Any other thoughts on how to quick fix? Hate to make a dealer visit just for this stupid little thing and I know I'll forget when I take it for something bigger. LOL.

TIA.
