PA Window Tint - experiences?
Anyone have experience in PA with tint on their windows?
I have read many websites on the statute in PA with regards to window tint. Basically, from what I have gathered, window tint is permitted, but they do not specifically state what percentage is authorized. They simply state that it must allow an outsider to see inside the vehicle. This is extremely vague IMO. I have seen other sites that say 70% is the legal limit, however the PA Statute does not say this at all. Apparently it is an item of some controversy, because PA cops will refer to some vague and shady pamphlets regarding rules, but they cannot refer to an actual law from PA regulation against window tint. I am just posting this to see if anyone has first hand experience with this issue. I am currently residing in Germany so I can tint my windows, however I will register the car in PA most likely when I ship it back, and I do not want them to tell me to take the tint off or they won't register the car, etc... Thanks!

Shameless bump
Just trying to see if anyone has any experience. I don't want to tint the car in Germany, then take it to the States and have them deny it registration because of tint. Thanks for any help

I live in southwest PA and I have no problems whatsoever with my 20% tint..I've been pulled over going towards pittsburgh and they didn't say one word about my tint...I always have my moonroof open for sunlight just incase I see a cop around.. call it sneaking suspicion??
but I think you'll be fine.. Maryland on the other hand around the Rosedale area is different..they pull you over for that specific reason. I was on 695 and I was driving my mother home.. her car has 20% all over and a 50% on the front.. she has legal papers from her skin care doctor ALLOWING her to have the "extra" film on to protect herself from the sun rays..when the cop was asking why we had such a dark tint she slipped those papers out of her purse and showed him.. didn't give us a ticket but he sure looked upset that he couldn't give us a ticket!

I have been stopped twice, ticketed once for it over the course of 9 years so they don't really bother with it. the one time i was ticketed was by a certain force that has absolutely nothing to do ever in their boring town.

Thanks for the tips guys... Pretty sure I am going to get it done in Germany before I ship it. I just hope they don't deny me registration in PA if I have tinted windows...

They will not deny registration, tinting is a discretionary thing, i.e., if you obey the law no tix, if you get pulled for one thing they can also write you up for that.
You are fine, get 'em tinted, you're good. Cheers, e46e92
