Question Noobie Question! But any help is appreciated

Dear M3ers,

I'm looking for an 2008 M3 coupe and I wouldl ike to hear your thoughts about this particular year. Do you think I should avoid 2008 since it's the first year of production? Any known issues with the 08s? Any heavy recalls? Any links?

Thanks for your time,

Not many problems, the dust shield for the brakes sometimes cracked and allow rocks in, making a ticking sound, there were some defective idle valves that were replaced, early DCT software was problematic. All have fixes that BMW dealers should be aware of.

Search the forums for better info no these issues.

No problems with mine except some mod issues but as for the car itself - no problems. My warranty is up in 2000km and I'm probably not going to buy the extended one as it's been that trouble free. Yes, had some DCT Software issues but nothing major and easily fixed by dealer.

completely trouble free car according to previous owner who traded it for a 2011 M3 DCT. In fact, other than the DCT he says he prefers the '08 because of the better sound system and the simpler to use idrive. There was no minor or major issues with this first year car other than some DCT software problems that were eventually corrected.

I had an emission software update for 'cold weather'. Had an increased emission warning light pop up; other than that nothing.

Once in a while if its parked for a week Ill have that rattling rock sound that suppsedly is rocks bouncing around the brakes. Does this mean my dust shield is cracked? (They didn't say anything about it when my car was in for a scheduled inspection)

Pretty trouble-free car if you ask me. Moreso than my Z4M, which I already thought was fairly trouble free.
