Power Button?

Forgive my ignorance here...I mean, I know what the button does. I can definitely feel the difference when its on vs when it's off. I'm just curious as to why it even exists, and if there is anything wrong with keeping it on all the time.

Sometimes I forget its on and I take off from a stop a lot faster than I'm meaning to. There are other times when I simply forget to turn it on. For instance, I passed a truck on the highway today and after passing I said to myself "dam, that would have been more fun if I had hit the power button".

Thanks in advance for you comments (and even criticisms).

BTW, I have an 08 e90 without the M-button/EDC (I bought it CPO and at the time the lack of this feature wasn't a "deal breaker")

Adjusts the throttle response. No extra power. With the Power button to Sport or Sport Plus, pushing the throttle becomes more sensitive and responsive... ie. you don't have to apply as much throttle.

I do drive with it on a lot. Mainly because the car is more responsive. But, with the pedal floored, I don't imagine the Power button has any impact because you are wide open either way.

Might improve MPG a little too? Since it's not as sensative, you won't be jacking the throttle as much.

My wifes GTS, without the "power" button (sport button on the Porsche) actually closes off the tuned exhaust and gets better MPG, as well as the remap of the throttle. It's pretty nice.

i have the same set up and said the same exact thing. No tech is not a deal breaker for me. Besides the navi was added into the car anyways and that was my main concern because my last e60 530i had no navi and it really bites. I leave the power button on all the time. The only thing it does is change the throttle response so leaving it on shouldn't be a problem. The only time i take it off is when i have passengers because it takes off pretty hard from a stop. Oh and btw its a 6mt

Since my 1200mi, I have it turned on as a default... I think the car drives much better and my gf noted that my shifts are much smoother (6 MT), I like the feel of the throttle response much better as well, just more in tune with each other.

I drive with it on all the time (key dependent setting) because that matches the throttle response of my other cars. It's there to give you choices. I like choices .

How do you set it to be on every time? I always turn it on when I get in.

change the power settings from your idrive. that way, you don’t have to switch it on every time you get in

I changed my settings and I still have to turn it on every time I start the car. Is there something I missed in the manual?

Not the M settings, but a different menu for key dependent settings.

With one tiny note - the OP does not have Sport Plus Power (and in fact, the power button itself does not support that mode) since he does not have MDrive. But that's a nitpick.

AFAIK, there is no way to have POWER on all the time through the idrive... the only area in the idrive that allows changes to the POWER setting is the M button settings. Unless there is something new for 2010/2011 M3s.

I just went into the garage and:
-inserted the keyfob (I have CA but decided to plug it in for this)
-started the car
-pressed the "Power" button
-turned off car
-restarted car and the Power is disabled again.

So for my car, the current setting of the Power button is not saved to the keyfob.

I missed that you don't have M-Drive. Without that, this menu option apparently doesn't exist.

In mine the Key-Dependent Settings are under the main menu, under M Settings.

Sorry - looks like you're pushing daily!

-in iDrive go to the settings
-go to M-drive (press down so the m-drive settings are listed)
-now press the options button
-set power and edc function

***sorry i was messing with it late last night and somehow forgot i even did it that way

But that just sets the settings for the M-Drive...so you still have to push the M-Drive button since that doesn't stay on once the car is turned off and turned back on....right?

I thought we were talking about a way to have that Power setting be always ON, (at least separate from the M drive).
