You're right I read about that and many others have that same problem. This would have been the only mod on my car but the negative feedback prevented me from doing it.

I'm getting my UUC SSK installed tomorrow. I didn't choose Rogue partly because of the noise and partly because it is actually taller than the stock shifter which is not what I was looking for. UUC is height adjustable. Will post my review when I get a chance.

I have some additional noise during hard shifts 1-2 and 2-3 but it is not grinding, just noise being transmitted up the shifter from the tranny

I have gotten used to it and it is quieter now than before

To be honest I hardly notice it.

I agree with you that it quiets down with time, however I'm not sure if that's because the shifter is getting quieter, or if we're just getting used to the noise.

My bad on the install question. All the M's that I have driven have had the SSK installed for 5k-10k miles so maybe that's why I have never heard any noise.

I've had the RE SSK for a year now.... probably about 7k miles. It's ok, if the car came this way from the factory I'd be happy... .but I'd never spend the money again to change it. There's nothing special and you can't shift any faster, especially the 1->2 shift which sucks in this car and you have to take your time with it or it grinds. The shifts feel slightly more accurate as there is a little less play in the shifter due to the use of a hard polyurethane rather than rubber. That also helps transmit the added noise which is barely noticeable in my opinion and even though you can hear it if you listen close it's not annoying and just one of the many noises this car makes.

The 1-2 in our cars is always tight due to some tranny "spin up" that holds back a fast shift but the 2-3 is way better now than before and the car just surges when going onto 3rd hard. It is fantastic

These are my feelings anyhow of my setup

I have had my UUC SSK for over a year now and frankly, would not do it again. I've spent around $500 between the SSK and the install, having the choice and knowing what I know now I would rather spend that money towards a CF rear diffuser or even the OEM splitters instead.
If anything the UUC SSK has been kind of a PITAss, the lug nut the tightens the shifter (so you can move it up and down) kept on coming loose and I would have to re-tighten the darn thing every so often, I finally got fed up and used some threadlocker to keep it from getting loose, looks like that worked but I find it pretty annoying that I had to resort to something like that.

My whole experience has not been a very good one with this anyway, from the very beginning. The dude that installed the SSK took like 1/2 a day to install it (he did not know what the F*k he was doing), he convinced me to replace my shift knob with the BMW weighted knob and then proceeded to botch the crap out of the knob, so I had to end up buying another M shifter and boot, and then I started to experience the issue with the shifter itself a few weeks after the install. This whole thing has cost me hundreds of dollars which I would not mind spending if the level of enjoyment was there, but for me the SSK experience has not made things that much better.

So I tried it once, got to experience what an aftermarket SSK is about, and will never do it again.

Maybe I have been unlucky with my setup, but I figure I would share my experience. Good luck!

v8man you should try some loctite on that nut, if they can keep the fasteners on my bike i am positive they will keep that nut on your shifter tight

Just had my UUC SSK installed today at Sonic MS. Luckily these guys know what they are doing, so no issues with the install. Overall I am very happy with this mod. The shifts feel significantly shorter. It is definitely notchier but not in a bad way and there is a more positive feel as it locks into gear. Shifts also require more effort but maybe it will become easier over time as it breaks in. I guess it all depends on personal preference on whether it is worth it or not. I'm coming from a Audi B7 S4 with a SSK that was pretty low with extremely short throws. Shifting the M3 felt like I was moving stick a mile which is why a SSK was worth the money to me.
