Found Best X-pipe

After reading all the opinions here, it became clear that all good X-pipes have an X and a pair of resonators. Well, since factory M3s already have an X and a pair of resonators, the only difference is that the factory X-pipe has a pair of secondary cats.

I know this has been done before here, so since the secondary cats have nothing to do with the CEL lights, I decided to remove them the old fashion way - long drill bit and a crow bar. Then I had two 5 cm long extensions welded onto the pipe ($25) so they would slip over the OEM down pipe. Done.

I doubt anyone makes an X-pipe (no matter how pricey) that gives you any real HP gain over this set-up. Whole thing took about 2 hours.

Who can beat $25 and OEM look and quality?

Never thought about whether the X-pipe should have an X .

Good solution if you don't need to replace your OEM pipes in the future. I guess you could always buy another stock pipe if needed, but I wouldn't want to go through the trouble.

I've never been a fan of modding OEM parts. With a car this expensive I want what's on my car to be done right.
I'm a big fan of R&D, build quality and weight savings.

Really?
I don't think this quite applies here.

I think you are suggesting that a screwdriver and elbow grease > all other options.

I think you might end up being the fool here

OP has a point, if all you care about is deleting secondary cats you're a fool to pay so much for an aftermarket Xpipe, unless you plan to go back to stock and need to keep it in tact. If HP or a lot of sound is your goal, then you do need aftermarket solution because you have to get rid of your primaries as well.

my point exactly, but HFC's vs the stock cats will also make a difference as well, especially if you are going the forced induction route. hey, to each his own, i just wouldn't alter my stock piping. it definitely is the way to go if you a) want to save money b) don't need your stock system for the future.

See, the issue here is that it's not just your secondary cats. If you want to go back to stock (and if you sell the car, I really hope you are going to do so) you are going to have to buy a new cat section. They're something insane like $5500 from BMW for just the primary + secondary cats. I think your are going to end up saving very little and spending a LOT in the long run... or screwing over whomever buys your car.
