Can I negotiate invoice+$1000 for a leased car?

I've been reading that people are getting cars at invoice + $1000 (or less). Is this the case only for purchased cars? Or can I negotiate such a price on a vehicle that I intend to lease?

For example, dealer showed me a 2011 M3 Coupe/15k/ZTP/ZPP/Metallic paint MSRP at $67125. $0 down, $1215 a month including taxes. (I've tried plugging these figures into May lease rates and I still can't figure out how they got something as high as $1215, but whatever...)

Invoice is $61370. I'm thinking of offering $62370.

Do I have a chance they'll bite? Or do dealers only discount on purchased cars?

Negotiate the car's price first, then talk about lease numbers. IMO

just say you want 1000 over invoice and watch your money factor and any dealer addon bullshit fees, and your golden, search around and learn how to multiply the money factor to convert it into a interest rate and make sure you happy with it.

Yes of course you can.

A leased car is a sold car as far as the dealership is concerned.

I just ordered a 2011 M3 coupe, MSRP is higher than yours at $69875. My lease payment is $975 a month which inclues CA 9.75% tax.

Zero down of course.

did you put down multiple security deposits? Pricing just above invoice? Feel free to PM info if this is too personal, but I am very curious.

I'm sure you can based on what I've read on these forums. $500-$1000 over invoice seems to be the norm whether you're leasing or buying.

FWIW, my dealer said they weren't willing to go anywhere near invoice as they only get a few allocations a month for M3's and it doesn't make sense for them to sell near invoice when the spots fill up quick.

This was just a casual conversation while my car was being serviced and I'm going to give them another chance when I sit down seriously and sign paperwork.

I was quoted exactly the same...about $9000 down/15k miles/$1215 a month. This was for a fairly stripped-down M3 too (no DCT, no competition package, no 19" wheels, no stereo). But my salesperson (who is great) told me "Now, this is at MSRP....we'll work with you on price."

Guys, there's no secret to get my deal...I simply e-mailed my offer to all the dealers in my area in So. Cal...and 4 of them came back with a "yes" without me even set foot in their dealership.....no negotiations either.

McKenna even offered me $800 over invoice...but I decided to stick with my CA at BMW Monrovia for $1000 over invoice (this is my third BMW from him within 5 years).

so here are the steps to figure out your $xx over invoice.

1.Build your 2011 M3 (coupe, sedan, vert) at edmunds.com, go here
2.Add $580 maco+training to the invoice you see after you build your car (for So. Cal), your maco+training fee will vary if you're not in So. Cal.
3.Add $800~$1000 to the number you got in step 2
4.Start e-mailing the price you acquired from the above steps to your nearby dealers.
5.You have to provide as much detail as possible about yourself, this will present yourself as a serious customer, and not some joe blow just kicking tires. it's always a plus if you are a BMWFS customer like myself...this means easier to quality for leases and loans...and this makes the job easier for any sales guy.

Your M3 will most likely be custom ordered from Germany, and most dealers should deal since they will incur no interest nor flooring charges on this M3.

Last, if your CA is willing to do your desired $xx over invoice, don't be shy....ask him for the precise monthly payment, and drive off.....from there you will find out if he's padded bogus fees and finance rate mark up.

again, my deal for reference, $1000 over So. Cal dealer invoice

OK, here's what I did and I believe the math is correct however the numbers seem too attractive.

I put together a hypothetical scenario for an ED M3 E93, the only options I added were DCT and 19in wheels. Added destination and gas guzzler + 1000 dealer profit over invoice pricing. Putting up 7 MSDs lowered the MF to 0.00211 (0.0023 base + 0.0003 mark-up for ED - 0.00049 from the MSDs).

The totals came to 686.63 for a 36 month / 10000 lease
24 is not bad either, 733.86

Both are pre-tax but adding even 10% to the 36 month would still keep it under 800

The question is - would any dealer be willing to accept this or they would want higher profit and/or MF?

I'm trying to see how this makes sense but I'm plugging your numbers into a lease calculator @ leasecompare.com and I am seeing payments $100 more a month. Cali tax is 9.75% right? You're using May lease rates for E92 M3 which is residual of 59% of money factor of .00230, right?

This just doesn't add up.
