2008 used pricing thoughts

I am wondering if I have this right... If the residual on a lease says that a 2008 m3 after 3/36k mile lease will has a residual of 33k-38k depending on options. Does that mean that the market will be around that price once the lease returns start to hit the market in a year or so?

You would think that would be the case. 2008 M3s were delivered late in 2007 I believe. Many of those cars should be coming off lease later this year. But you sure wouldn't know that from the current used car market which is absolutely flooded with M3s in the $50-$55k range. There are only a handful of them that are selling below $50k and those are mostly high-mileage or stripped-down cars.

If I was someone thinking of selling an M3 on the used car market I sure as heck wouldn't wait...the market is about to fall out of the bottom.

yeah, I was looking at prices and thought they seem so high compared to residuals.... I am hoping that I can pick one up under 40k in about 6-9 months. we will see I guess

I also see prices that are way too high. I rather get an ED car for nearly 9K off MSRP and out the door for under $60K, than pay 50K for a 3yo car even if it has a few more options. I plan on keeping it forever if I buy it anyway.

Most of the cars were sold in 2008 and even early 2009. It will be a while before the leases come back.
