2011 M3 Seat Sensor issue

Hello everyone, my name is Wes, I've been following this forum for a while but I've never made any post or comments, and i've been waiting for a couple of years to be able to afford an M3. I just recently purchased a 2011 E92 M3, with ZCP package. I just called my CA and asked him why my car has been at the preparation center in NJ/NY for over a week and a half. He told me that they send the port a message asking why my M has been there for so long, and the response that came back was that there is a seat sensor issue, and that all the 2011's at the port are being held there so they can get fix the issue before distributing them to the dealers. Is anyone facing the same issue??

Thanks, I hope to have pictures of my IB E92 M3 by next week. I am looking forward to posting more o this forum.

I wouldn't put it past the CA to make up that story. Who knows though?

Welcome to the forum and good luck. I hope it comes soon.

Cheers.

I didn't ask in depth. My guess is that the factory at the port will fix it. To my knowledge, the port is as good as the factory in germany. But my CA also mentioned that no other 2011's have been released in the US yet, and I am pretty sure some guys on here have received a MY2011, E90 and E92's. And he was shocked to hear that and said that they will most likely be recalled to get that issue fixed.

Another poster had this issue recently. Search the threads for the posting about the front license plate bracket...was discussed on that thread.

Your saleperson is wrong. I was at my dealer yesterday and they have a 2011 E92 M3 on their showroom floor ready to go.

And yes, quite a few others on this board have taken delivery of their 2011's.

But maybe, and that's a big maybe, your salesman is correct in a future recall for the seat sensors.

That is totally wrong, because I am driving mine right now. I have had it for two weeks. I hope that is a lame excuse for the fact that your car suffered some sort of damage on the ship. Good Luck!!

Well, I'm due to pick up mine at the Performance Center in a few days and they haven't contacted me to say cancel my trip... In fact I got the "we look forward to seeing you" e-mail a few days ago.

I will say the on-line tracking says it's at the PrepCenter and the 800# now says it's back at the port waiting on a ship. But, I settled up and got my temp tags a couple of days ago and nothing was mentioned.

My CA was clueless about almost everything, after 2mo of reading this board, I am more of an expert on tracking, M3's, PCD, and PrepCenter than he or the GM is.

Read the threads on damages during shipment. They are fixed in the distribution center and they dont disclose it unless the repair costs more than a certain percentage of the entire value of the car. (i think 5%) in those cases, your dealer might have no clue on what had happened to your car.

yet, they might be telling the truth as well

Thanks guys. I have read about the ship tipping over a couple years ago, damaging a large stock of their inventory. I asked my CA and his manager about this and tried to get a little more information, whether or not the vehicle was damaged or not. and that was the reason they told me, with this front seat sensor malfunction.
I do find it a little suspicious since they wouldn't tell me which boat the car came in from. I also asked the manager if the vehicle was damaged, and he said no, because there would be a D next to the vehicle on his computer.

Whether or not they are telling the truth, i will have to see next week when i pick up the car. I am wondering if there is any other way of finding out why the car is still at the port, without contacting the dealer. I called the 1-800 number and the computer said my car is at the port, i talked to the person on the line, and they said that they can not track the car or find out what happened to it, once it reached the port.

I will let you guys know if any new news comes up. Thanks everyone for the replies.

UPDATE.

It is not a sensor malfunction, what happened is my car was built in less then 2 weeks. There was a shortage of a supply for the seats and they are waiting for the part to be assembled at the port. I hope this clarifies why some people got there 2011's and why it isn't a problem. sorry for the scare

Glad to hear it, your car might have been on the same ship as mine.

Tell them you'll take an E93 M3 seat instead.

Cheers.
