Extended warranties??

What's the deal with them?? Do they cover the same thing as the original warranty? Is the CPO warranty any different or better?

If I buy a used M3 from a non BMW dealer OR from a private seller OR from the USA, can I purchase the extended warranty in Canada?

Do I even want the extended warranty? Or should I just find a nice non dealer shop that can take care of the car?

And assuming I can purchase the warranty, what are they charging?

No they never cover the same thing!

The certified series is mostly powertrain coverage with some major components, but you have the option of extending the service-inclusive contract for the remainder of the certified series term.

No extended warranty (cert series)/service inclusive is applicable on vehicles bought outside Canada (i.e. US vehicles) or Non-dealer vehicles!

Currently BMW does not have any extended warranty plans on there vehicles, except certified series/service inclusive contracts on the cert cars and on new vehicles service inclusive is also applicable.

For the M3, I would recommend getting a new OR certified series preowned from a BMW dealer so you can avail of the service inclusive which covers BRAKES, CLUTCH, BELTS etc.. (all wear and tear items not covered under the standard no-scheduled maintenance for various terms 3/4/5yrs) This will be helpful in the long-run

I know this is a lot of jargon, but it is what it is, hope this helps!

What about existing owners?

Follow me:

I buy a Canadian car from a private owner.
He buys the extended warranty ( assuming he can).
Then I buy it.
Does that warranty transfer to me?

Hey m3vert, still waiting on those numbers....

The last time I checked,I am pretty sure the only warranty's that BMW offers on M cars is within 12 months of purchase to the orginal owner or on the pre owned program.I also do not think that US cars can get any kind of CPO warranty except for the remaining factory warranty. It is possible things have changed since the last time that I dealt with this.

That silly. You should be able to get an extended as long as your current warranty is still valid. That shows that BMW don't put much faith in their cars.

With Merc, I can buy any used car merc, and as long as it hasn't been in a accident, I can purchase an extended warranty, at a slight premium when compared to when the car was originally purchased.

Hey m3vert, still waiting on those numbers....
You guys are confusing warranty and service inclusive terms.

Gearhead is referring to this service inclusive package which can only be purchased by the original owner within the 12 months period!
This is an extended all-inclusive maintenance plan! (as explained earlier)
http://www.bmw.ca/ca/en/owners/servi...rt_only_EN.pdf
Yes this package stays on the vehicle and regardless how many owners drive the vehicle, it will be covered for 5yrs/96KM.

Dee, theres no extended warranty available from BMW at the moment, although i heard through a grape-vine at BMW Canada that they will be relasing them soon!

And yes I will let you know about the numbers, just did not get a chance today
