Read Georg Kacher's review in the latest CAR: not better in every way. They gave it 4 / 5 -vs- 5 / 5 for the M3.

Car Magazine also said...."doesn't have the agility and excitement of the M3"...
and EVO magazine:

this is an interesting comment from EVO:

What’s it like to drive?
A little confusing. This is not a direct M3 rival, it is much more the everyday GT with an amusing turn of speed. The confusion comes in the slight disharmony that exists between powertrain and chassis. Taken in isolation the RS5 excels in both categories: the engine is tuneful, smooth and loves to rev – in fact it needs to rev to feel anything like as fast as the figures suggest.

Thankfully, the 7-speed S-Tronic transmission is typically superb, even if the intermediate ratios are too long. The trouble is, the RS5 seems to like a quieter life. It is exceptionally refined, and with the DRC (Dynamic Ride Control) set to comfort it rides well on Spanish roads, but we need to drive it in the UK just to make sure. So you’re left with a car whose chassis wants you to relax, but whose engine and gearbox must be worked very hard to produce the performance you’d expect. Like I said, confusing.

Audi set out to dethrone the M3...they had THREE years to do it. once again they developed a car that is too fat and way way too expensive. as i said before Audi needs to focus on building cars....focus on what they do well.....fix what they dont do well....not chase the competition because when they do....FAIL!
I guess it's back to the drawing boards for Audi

Yes, like footie said: 300 lbs less and a supercharged 3.0l with 470 hp (quattro they already have and it is now better than xDrive) and the next RS5 is WIN. Except if it looks like the new A1, A7 and A8. These are IMO the most ugly Audi's.

Audi vs Mercedes

I think you overstate the sentiment; not quite on a "god tier", but handily above Audi would probably be closer to the mark.

Straw man argument.

However, look they do, listen they do, but with lead times for R&D to launch spanning six or seven years as is the case with BMW, what is liked or not in 2010 is likely going to be far less inline with the likes and dislikes of consumers of 2016 or 2017.

Isn't it the case with Audi fans? Just read the comments on Youtube. It's even worse than BMW. I think many BMW fans went over to Audi.

Audi, be sure, until you won't have RWD, I won't go over to you, and as you will never have RWD, I'll never go over to you.
(Well, just to get get R8 V10 FSI and Q7 V12 TDI, the only good Audi's for show. )

Audi A4 DTM and Audi R8 LMS are RWD.

To MERCSUk153: You can't drift with AWD.

It is possible to "drift", but AWD is not done for drifting. Have you seen any AWD in any Drift competition? Me not. I maybe havn't surched.

Sorry this is OT, but there are many people that drive their M3's/C63's/and F's in the winter up here that have no problems.

This is my point, seeing what consumers like and being competitive is inevitable.

That said the AWD is much better in the winter than any of the cars you just mentioned. You guys still get in my way in a storm. LOL Ya you don't have the problem but I do when some RWD with all seasons are stuck and causing a traffic backup. I even saw some lady with her performance summer tires on in a storm and she was all pissed at her car. LOL I had to pull over and explain to her about winter tires since traffic wasn't really moving anywhere. She then became pissed at the dealer. I was just thinking man this woman had no clue.
I've never been stuck or out of control in the winter in my F. Blizzak LM 25-V's for the win!

Though it did end up parked a couple of weeks ago for an entire week when we had several freak blizzards and my PS2's were back on.

I actually live west of Cowtown in the mountains and survived one and a half Rockie winters in my F with zero issues. My wife drives the ML and I only had my last X5 for the summer. My new X5 didn't get here until January.

Ironically, we have a higher number of Audi's than is typical in Canada here. I find the Audi drivers here to be more of a pita as they think their Quattro's can drive through anything....they can't.

AWD is absolutely a plus for 0-60. What are you talking about? 0-60 depends on launch and traction about as much as power to weight (in a range of course). I guess you haven't seen the 2.9s 0-60 by Car and Driver magazing for the Porsche 997.2 Turbo? That is a sick time. It is due to:

-AWD
-Rear weight bias
-PDK/launch control
-Power to weight ratio

Now 60-130 or even 0-100 will be much less improved by AWD.

Your neighbor must drive like a DBag if you are winning to 60. If you had an SRT-8 I would agree with you...

Don't know if anyone has posted these yet...

The German magazine "Auto Motor Und Sport" has finally done instrumented tests on the new Audi RS5:

---

0-50 km/h in 1,7 s
0-100 km/h in 4,5 s
0-160 km/h in 10,1 s
0-200 km/h in 16,1 s
400 metres: 12,7 s (179 km/h)
80-120 km/h: 4,4 s/6,1 s/8,1 s/10,6 s (4th/5th/6th/7th gear)

18 m slalom: 66,5 km/h
110 m ISO test: 139,4 km/h
Braking distance (100-0 km/h): 33,3 m/33,4 m (cold/warm)

1780kg measured weight

Test car was equipped with optional Ceramic brakes(front only).

---

Seem to be pretty identical to the DCT M3; maybe a tick or two slower. Some will paint this as a "fail", but I'm still impressed by the RS5 and hope it comes stateside at a reasonable price.

The 6MT M3 shows better straight line stats:

No, the RS5 is faster than M3 6MT. Only the M3 7DCT keeps up with the RS5. RS5 has advantage from start (perfect traction thanks to AWD), M3 has advantage at higher speed (less drivetrain loss with RWD).

Now, if the RS5 is not really faster than the M3, it does not mean it is worse. The RS5 does not have the same purpose as the M3, so there are many other things, where the RS5 is better than the M3 (I am not going to give any examples).

When shall people understand that Audi is not the better BMW, but Audi is just another german premium brand?
