Was it CPO? How much does CPO usually add to the cost of the vehicle? And did you get the extended maintenance plan as well?

I'm looking at 2008 E90s and most sellers are not budging on their prices. Pretty ridiculous IMO.

What's their asking price range?

Hey guys - I'm still looking for an M3 sedan, preferably 2009.

I was hoping to get something for mid $40s with low miles (10k), manual, navigation. Given how crappy the resale/demand for sedans is, this should be do-able, right?

I've seen 08 E90s in the low 50s. That's just stupid to think I'll buy it at low 50s for an 08 when I can order new for maybe 10k more.

I've also seen some in the mid 40s that I believe should be about 2k less at least. Most are optioned out with premium and tech and 6mt.

I'm looking for a CPO with premium, tech, cold weather with mid-20k miles for low 40s. I think that's reasonable. Thoughts?

Even a barebones '09 will probably be more.

It isn't CPO, i bought it from a private seller. I still have 20 months of factory warranty left on it. I'm not sure how much more CPO would add to the price. The seller was asking 45,900, I was able to get it down to 43,500 but had to have it shipped cross country. Hope this helps.

Just about to buy an '09 Sedan in Jerez Black / Fox red, loaded with DCT tech, hidden radar detector, clear bra. 13K miles. Car seems perfect

CPO'd for $52.5K

Seems good?

Sounds like a good deal. With the warranty till 100k, I don't think you'll have problems with the DCT. Color combo is pretty nice IMO, but no way my wife would go for fox red.

I thought the same about my wife, but the red is kind of dull, almost a brown, so she is ok with it.

Hey guys - I'm going to see an M3 tomorrow that I may pull the trigger on.

Question for you guys - can I get a lower price if I pay in 100% cash (or debit card - are they the same thing?)? Say the price is $55k, if I offer $50K cash is that enticing or does it not make a difference?

While I'm exciting to buy, not excited about the 10% sales tax here in CA. WTF!

With ACH speed the way it is nowadays, it doesn't make as much of a difference. That said, it does mean it can't make a difference. If you're going to save the dealer some doc overhead and risk by paying cash, it might be a deal clincher, but don't expect miracles paying cash.

The best way to figure out how much to offer on a car is do your research, then do some more. Come up with what a TRUE fair market value is (blue books are almost always wrong), then 2-5k (depending on car, market, demand, etc) below that and negotiate up. Without knowing the specs on your car of interest, blindly at $55k sticker, I'd start at 50k regardless of paying cash or not. In fact, a smarter financial decision would be to finance the car and hang on to your $$$.

Also, realize if the dealer is selling at 55k, they probably bought at around 45-49k. A cpo would probably be purchased for even less.

Thanks ramyar - very helpful. In terms of negotiating, you think it's better if I ask them on the phone before going there (50 miles away) "will you sell it for X - if so, after a test drive tomorrow morning, I'll buy it"?

I feel like I have worse negotiating power if I all the way there, then try and negotiate price (them knowing I'll have to drive all the way back with nothing in hand). Thoughts?

Yes negotiate over the phone and get him to his lowest price possible. Then get him to go lower, even if it's just a 100 bucks. Don't give up until he says something like there being no way he can go lower. Then tell him you're on your way down to see it. Don't tell him you'll take it. Then when you get there and drive the car you can work him even lower.

Remember the only reason you'll feel less of an advantage going down there is if you let yourself feel like that. Always be willing to walk away without regrets. I know it's hard if you really like the car but that's what they're counting on. I know it sounds silly and counter to other things in life but the way I overcome that is hanging on to negative thoughts to make it easier to negotiate less desparately or walk away. Like the insurance will be too high or you don't really need this car or a used sports ca is risky or whatever works for you.
