BMW Military Sales Question...

Do Department of Defense Civilian Employees qualify for this program? If so, does that apply to immediate family as well? My friends Mom works for the DOD, and is curious about the program.

As long as the person has an active ID card and is currently overseas you can order from the program.

The ID card holder could purchase the BMW, but non-card holders in the family could not, to further clarify.

To "escape" certain taxes, the car would also have to be registered in Europe for 6 months (I think) prior to sending it back to the US. For those that are stationed in Europe, the deal is quite good. For those that are ordering from downrange and then accepting delivery in the US, typically it is a little less of a great deal due to the added duties/taxes.

Sooo, it would be similar to just finding a dealer to sell the car at invoice in the US?

In the end it depends whether you finance or buy outright. Assuming that if you buy through a dealer and use BMWFS and they have a decent rate, you could save on finance charges. Also, depending on the state you live and the taxes they charge. For me, nc charges a 3% highway usage tax. Typically the best rates only come out on bmw's right at the end of the model year. So, when the dealerships stateside could come close to the military sales, you can order a new model year, exactly specified car and not have to get a left over car that may not have exactly the options you like. In addition, you will still save a few thousand typically because the price before your states taxes (which includes import duties) is eight thousand under MSRP.
